Week 5 Matchups and Predictions

Well we are now in the bye week portion of the season, which means it's time to see which teams have enough depth to survive and flourish and those who might be left in the dust. It's really tricky with bye weeks because if you have multiple players with bye weeks and you play a guy with only one or none, it's kinda tough to eek out a win, unless you have some nice depth behind your starters (something that I don't have anymore after the trades I made). So here are this weeks matchups and predictions.

RuggedRaymontHarris (2-2) vs
Shredders (1-3)

Matchup Stats
Never have faced each other

Overview: If Zach was going to get back into the thick of things, this is a great opportunity. I have Tony Romo and Ray Rice on byes, and since I traded away Beanie Wells, I'm going to have to go with BenJarvus Green-Ellis against the New York Jets and I'll go with Mark Sanchez at QB in that same game. Those are really risky plays but it's the best that's out there. Zach is going with Michael Vick this week and he should be primed for a very big game since the Eagles are in MUST win mode. The only bright spot about him having Vick is that I have DeSean Jackson and LeSean McCoy so anything Vick gives them is to my advantage. As for the rest of my team, I really look at it and like the matchups more on my side, with Greg Jennings in the Sunday night against Atlanta (which should be a shootout) and Vincent Jackson against the Broncos. That Eagles-Bills game is going to be huge for both us cause Not only are Vick, DeSean, and McCoy going, but Zach also has Jeremy Maclin and Stevie Johnson as well. I could see big games for all involved in that game. Zach is going with McGahee/Benson again this week, and those guys seem so uninspiring, but I wouldn't be surprised if they churned out productive games. Vernon Davis has reemerged as a top target for Alex Smith while I have to go with Jermaine Gresham again, as I try to still figure out what's going on with my tight end position. I'm also going with Cincinnati against the Jags, while Zach might get some major points out of the Giants D against lowly Seattle.

Yahoo says: Zach wins 90-89
I say: Zach wins, yes I'm picking against myself again, and it's mainly because of too many bye week fill ins and question marks at D and TE. Mark Sanchez could be terribly disappointing, as could BenJarvus Green Ellis, so it's going to fall on my WR core and LeSean McCoy to carry my team. I think an outstanding performance by Vick and decent production for the rest of Zach's team might be enough to get Zach back rollin into the W column this week.

Take Dat Wit Chu (3-1) vs
Dr. Wily's Robots (1-3)

Matchup Stats
Last Matchup: Matt beat Kenny in Week 5 of the 2010 season (The infamous "Shonn Greene Game")
Series Record: Matt is 1-0 against Kenny

Overview: It's kind of crazy that Matt and Kenny only met once last season, and it was the same exact week of the season. Will the same result happen? Kenny is coming off a heartbreaking loss, and he'll be without Peyton Hillis and Miles Austin. He did make a trade to get Santonio Holmes, and it couldn't come at a better time since Holmes has a favorable matchup against the Pats. He'll have Deion Branch in the same game and he's been pretty much hit or miss so far this season. Of course Larry Fitzgerald is always primed for a big game and they play Minnesota. Ryan Mathews has really emerged as a great fantasy back, so much so, that Kenny was confident enough to trade away Felix Jones. He'll have a good matchup against the Broncos. Kenny will have a Monday Night play in Jahvid Best. Best is unpredictable but at least he's a pass catching RB, so he could have a good game in the Bears. After slicing up Denver, Aaron Rodgers sets his sights on the Falcons, and big things are expected in that game. Should be a shootout. Tony Gonzalez is on the opposite side with Atlanta, and it wouldn't be surprising if Gonzalez keeps his consistant production up. Matt's hoping to FINALLY get a big game from Phillip Rivers who plays that Broncos D that Aaron Rodgers just torched. Now, Rivers probably won't sniff Rodgers production because San Diego actually has a running game unlike Green Bay, but he should still provide a big enough game to help Matt out immensely. Matt has both Santana Moss and Brandon Marshall on byes, so he's making a sneaky start in Jacoby Jones. Jones is a solid sleeper here, as should be the #1 target outside of Owen Daniels in the passing game (expect Arian Foster to get the bulk of the work in the running game though). Matt also rolls with Dwayne Bowe and A.J. Green, both scary guys who at the snap of the finger can get big plays out of nowhere. The Chiefs get Indy, which is double good for Bowe. Can Adrian Peterson finally get a monster game that made him the #1 overall pick?? The last two weeks have been disappointing and here he gets Arizona, so you would think he's in store for his big game, but we'll see. Fred Jackson continues to prove  critics wrong, and he's part of that big Eagles-Bills game and I full expect him to be a big part of that. If there's any game Keller has big upside you would think it would be this one against the Patriots. Will see if Keller can make a huge impact against that horrible pass defense.

Yahoo Says: Matt wins 96-91
I say: Matt wins, man this is tough, really tough, I think Rivers could get a game that potentially equals Aaron Rodgers, and I like Matt's RB situation a little more than Kenny's. Matt's WR's also have that big game potential, not that Fitzgerald doesn't. This is really really too close to call for me, but I'll go with Matt by a hair.

Salt & Vinegar Chips (1-3) vs
Channel 4 News Team (2-2)

Matchup Stats
Last Matchup: Mike beat Albert Week 5 of the 2010 season
Series Record: Mike is up 1-0 all time

Overview: Mike Posey totally revamped his team, and as of right now those trades won't take into effect until tomorrow, but expect Mike to roll out 5 new starters. Matt Schaub, Beanie Wells, Marques Colston, Nate Washington, and Steve Smith were all acquired via trades and will be officially starting for Mike tomorrow. Now the only problem is, Mike traded Tom Brady away to Albert who he faces THIS WEEK. Don't know if I would've made that trade on the same week I'm facing him. Matt Schaub is without Andre Johnson, so the emphasis might be more on the run, while the rest of the new acquisitions have good enough matchups that should be able to put some points up. Albert though, might just be too strong this week, with Calvin Johnson, Tom Brady, and Arian Foster at the helm, all three guys can put up MAJOR points this week. Julio Jones and Jermichael Finley are also in line for big games in that Atlanta-Green Bay matchup. The only glaring weakness on Albert's team is that he must start DeAngelo Williams due to the bye week of Steven Jackson. for Posey, Michael Turner will also be involved that huge Sunday night game that has so many fantasy implications for so many different teams. Sidney Rice is also someone you can't write off, as he has had a great start to his season after missing the first couple games due to injury. He's definitely not a bad bye week replacement. Once again, Antonio Gates will be out, and he's killed Mike, as he's missed the last three weeks with an injury (and had no catches wees 2). Mike will go with Scott Chandler again, and it's always boom or bust. If he doesn't score a TD, he doesn't provide much offense.

Yahoo Says: Albert wins 94-82
I say: Albert Wins, I think it might have be a mistake to make that trade with Albert in the same week you are playing him. I think Albert has too much fire power to lose this game.

The Bad Bobofies (3-1) vs
Da Boyz (2-2)

Matchup Stats
Never faced each other

Overview: Any way this goes will be a shock 5 weeks into the season. Either my dad improves to an amazing 4-1 or Cindy starts are 3-2, both not expected by this week into the season. The big problem was Cindy losing Andre Johnson for three weeks at least. Huge blow to her team as he's a pretty big part of that team. Robert Meachem is totally capable of having a good game, but he's too inconsistent to rely on, especially with Colston back, but you go with what you have and Meachem is Cindy's best bet. Matt Ryan should be in a shootout with the Packers (geez, seriously HOW MANY TEAMS HAVE GUYS IN THAT ONE GAME ALONE???). Here's another big question. Can Wes Welker continue kicking ass and having ungodly performances?? We'll see how he does against Revis and the Jets. Reggie Wayne just isn't a prime option anymore, if you saw the Tampa game it was Pierre Garcon getting the targets and touchdowns. You never know though, he might surprise you. Darren McFadden came a little back to earth last week, but against the Texans, he should be in store for a typical 100+ a TD at least. Shonn Greene, ugh, if he can't do shit against New England, he's 1000%% done as a starting fantasy running back for good. Owen Daniels now becomes Matt Schuab's best buddy and should shine against Oakland. On dad's side a couple trades and an injury have modifed dad's team for this week. Brees is Brees and should be fine. Dad now will rely on the Denver Bronco tandem of Eric Decker and Brandon Lloyd to anchor his receiving core and I could see them doing big things against the Chargers since I envision this might turn into blowout/garbage time production. I think Yahoo's projected points for both are relatively low. Chris Johnson faces a not so scary defense anymore in the Steelers. Arian Foster decimated them, and when even Joseph Addai churns out a great game, I think CJ could have a way better game than his projected score shows. Dad's gonna have to go with Mark Ingram because his newest acquisition, Felix Jones, is out on bye, and Brandon Jacobs suffered a sprained MCL which will keep him out of this week. Ingram is very risky, but he's worth a shot here. Dad has Nate Burleson on Monday night against the Bears. Even though rookie Titus Young is seeing more targets lately, I think Burleson has a chance to shine as the Bears will try their best to focus on shutting down Megatron. Dad also has to spot start Kellen Winslow since Jason Witten is on bye.

Yahoo Says: Cindy wins 90-76
I say: Dad wins, I'm gonna way against Yahoo on this and say Dad wins a close one. Yahoo has blowout in Cindy's favor, but I really think on my dad's side the projected points for Decker, Lloyd, CJ, and Ingram are very conservatively low. It wouldn't surprise in the least if they blow those projections out of the water. On Cindy's side, I'm not a big believer in Wayne/Meachem/Shonn Greene and Wes Welker has one of the toughest tests he's had all season. Either way, should be a interesting matchup between two of the surprise teams of the league.

Hoosier Daddy (3-1) vs
The_Twin_Killers (2-2)

Matchup Stats
Never faced each other

Overview: Ryan has the 3rd least points in the league, yet owns a 3-1 record. Leland has the most points in the league and owns a 2-2 record. Matchups matter in fantasy football, and it's all about the luck of playing the right team at the right time. Guess what, the Atlanta game is a factor in this matchup as well as Leland has his newly acquired Roddy White going. Leland gets the benefit of having 4 Sunday/Monday night plays (3 on Monday) as Matthew Stafford, Matt Forte, and the Lions D all go Monday night. Those are nice plays to have in your back pocket. Looks like Leland is going with the Hakeem Nicks/Victor Cruz Giant combo against Seattle. We'll see if Victor Cruz is really for real here. Leland is gonna trust LaGarrette Blount over newly acquired Ahmad Bradshaw this week to go along with Forte. Blount had an amazing game against Indy, but he faces a little bit better defense in San Francisco. Rob Gronkowski looks to rebound from a pitiful performance last week, as his matchup is against the Jets. Ryan's going to be without Rashard Mendenhall this week and in his place he's gonna take a risk and play Isaac Redman, who is Mendy's backup. Cam Newton gets the Saints ,and Cam has the potential to go bananas in that game. Mike Wallace might have trouble getting the ball, of the Titans D takes advantage of the  struggling Steelers offensive line, but he's too good to bench. Mike Williams of Tampa Bay has been pretty damn disappointing but he always has that big play possibility. Plaxico gets a nice matchup against New England's defense, let's just see of Mark Sanchez can get the ball to him. Jimmy Graham has lived up to the hype and more, and I would expect the same here against the Panthers.

Yahoo Says: Leland wins 91-89
I say: Leland wins in a close game. Both are pretty well matched up, Isaac Redman is a gamble, but if he pays off it might be the different in who wins the game.
