Keepers Are In! A Team By Team Look At Who Got Kept

Time just FLIES..and we're only about a week away from Year 9 of the Wane McGarity Bowl kicking off! This weekend was the Keeper Deadline so we now know officially who's being kept and where. For the most part no real surprises. In my Keeper analysis I'll show you who I thought teams were going to keep and they ended up keeping. I was pretty spot on with most of the picks. So here's the official breakdown of this year's keepers!

Me (Rigmas Forever)
Kept: Alvin Kamara (Round 13)
          Michael Thomas (Round 10)

No surprise here as there was never a doubt I was keeping these two guys at their ADP. Yes, it was painful to have to let go of OBJ, but I just couldn't pass up the value of Michael Thomas in Round 10. The Hunt trade with Leland, provided me the chance to get two elite players in double digit rounds. It was one of the better trades I've made in the league and for once I get to keep top tier talent in low rounds. It's a solid core to build around.

Dad (BigBadBob)
Projected Keepers : DeAndre Hopkins (Round 3)
                                Devante Adams (Round 5)

Kept: DeAndre Hopkins (Round 3)
          Devonta Freeman (Round 9)

I felt like the Hopkins keep was a no brainer. Dude was a beast last year and in Round 3, there's no way to not keep him. The next keep was a 50/50 coinflip. I saw the validity of both guys. I thought possibly Dad would like the upside of Adams more, but he stuck with the RB and the guy with the most value of the two in Freeman. With RB's being so scarce and Freeman's Round 9 price tag, it totally made sense to go that way. I'm really liking Dad's set up this year and with these two keepers along with the #1 overall pick. I think this might be his best chance at a fantasy title to date.

Albert (Channel 4 News Team)
Projected Keepers: Stefon Diggs (Round 5)
                               Allen Robinson (Round 6)

Kept: Stefon Diggs (Round 5)
         Chris Thompson (Round 9)

Albert didn't have a ton to work with here, but I like the Diggs keep. I think that's solid value in Round 5. I projected him to keep Allen Robinson only because I thought he was the best of the bunch by default, but it's no big loss to throw in back in the pool. Chris Thompson is intriguing because of Darius Guice's injury and Thompson is the top receiving back for the Redskins. It's not a terrible keep to keep him at ADP.

Leland (No Soup For You)
Projected Keepers: Kareem Hunt (Round 2)
                               David Johnson (Round 14)

Kept: Kareem Hunt (Round 2)
         David Johnson (Round 14)

Leland is always a no brainer when it comes to keepers because he always drafts well and it's easy to see who's he going to keep. Once again the biggest steal of the draft, David Johnson gets to be kept in the 14th round. In a game for finding top RB is very difficult, it's a huge advantage to have two elite RB's and Leland has that in David Johnson and Kareem Hunt while also getting to keep his 1st round pick (3rd overall) which is huge. Leland's always seemed to have a championship caliber roster only to get crushed by injuries so he's due for an injury free dominant season. Can't go wrong with the two guys he's building around.

Matt (Light's Broken Bots)
Projected Keepers: Tom Brady (Round 7)
                               Josh Gordon (ADP)

Kept: Tom Brady (Round 7)

Matt's keeper prospects weren't that great and unfortunately the Jordy Nelson 10th round keep never really panned out, and now he's not even worth keeping. I thought he might go ahead and bite the bullet and go with a  Josh Gordon keep at ADP since he can't seem to quit him, but Matt decided to only keep Tom Brady in Round (which is a no brainer). With only 1 keep, Matt's going to have knock his draft out of the park to keep up with the other teams.

Mike (Woe Is You)
Projected Keepers: Mike Evans (Round 1)
                               Evan Engram (Round 13)

Kept: Cooper Kupp (Round 12)
         Evan Engram (Round 13)

This was tough as no one really stood out as a keeper. I thought possibly Mike would play it safe with Mike Evans and then go Evan Engram in Round 13, but Mike decided to keep his 1st round pick and go with Cooper Kupp in Round 12 along with Engram. It doesn't look flashy, and I know Mike was disappointed but I look at it this way..you're still getting value with these two guys as Kupp and Engram are both being drafted 2-3 round earlier then where Mike is keeping them. Both guys are startable assests, but not impact guys so Mike just has to make sure his draft picks hit and he can find elite talent earlier in the draft.

Ryan (Hoosier Daddy)
Projected Keepers: Ezekiel Elliott (Round 1)
                               Leonard Fournette (Round 2)

Kept: Ezekiel Elliott (Round 1)
         Leonard Fournette (Round 2)

Another team who's keepers were decided even before last year ended. It might cost Ryan his first 2 picks, but honestly how can't you keep these two RB's? Having these two gives Ryan an advantage over most teams in the league who want have the chance at two elite RB's.

Drew (I AM QUEENS BLVD)
Projected Keepers: Todd Gurley (Round 1)
                               Dalvin Cook (Round 2)

Kept: Todd Gurley (Round 1)
          Dalvin Cook (Round 2)

If you have two elite RB's..you're going to keep them and so Drew was another team that was easy to guess who he was going to keep. He hit a home run big time with Gurley, and Cook was a stud before going down with a season ending injury. Drew's hoping these two stay healthy and he can draft around them to have a team that can finally get over that 1st round playoff hump.

Alex (SCLSU MudDogs)
Projected Keepers: Le'Veon Bell (Round 1)
                               Drew Brees (Round 2)

Kept: Le'Veon Bell (Round 1)
          Andrew Luck (Round 9)

This one took me a little bit by surprise because Drew Brees has been Alex's guy since he joined the league. I don't think he's ever had another QB since he joined. But there was a reason Alex drafted Luck late last year and stashed him. Keeping Luck gives Alex flexibility in the 2nd round now and he takes care of his QB in Round 9. Bell is always a no brainer as Alex looks to regain his championship form, this time without Brees leading the charge.

Kenny (Easy Beasley)
Projected Keepers: Antonio Brown (Round 1)
                               Christian McCaffrey (Round 2)

Kept: Antonio Brown (Round 1)
         Christian McCaffrey (Round 2)

Yeah..Kenny downplayed McCaffrey alllllllllllllll offseason, very adamant he was going to keep Deshaun Watson in Round 14. I didn't buy it..I always knew he'd end up keeping McCaffrey just because of the RB situation in the league. The preseason cemented that and sure enough Kenny backed off the Watson train and went with McCaffrey in Round 2 to go with Antonio Brown. It definitely has its risks, but sometimes you gotta swing for the fences when it comes to running back and McCaffrey's potential is enormous. Kenny's hoping to make it the Finals for a 3rd time and it's that's the charm to finally win the elusive Wane McGarity Bowl.

Mark (Shock The Monkey)
Projected Keepers: Tyreek Hill (Round 3)
                               Derrick Henry (Round 5)

Kept: Tyreek Hill (Round 3)
          Derrick Henry (Round 5)

It's crazy that the league champion didn't really have dominant players to chose from in regards to keepers, but he kept who I thought were the best of the bunch. Hill should be solid once again and although Round 3 isn't crazy, it's good enough value because I think he would've been drafted in the first two rounds had he been unkept. Derrick Henry still has home run potential, but a little part of that was taken away when the Titans decided to sign Dion Lewis (Ironically, on Mark's team last year). Still he's definitely worth a keep based on potential alone. The positive thing is Mark gets to keep his first two picks, so he'll get a couple of the better players that will be left in the pool.

Eugene (Rocket Man)
Projected Keepers: Julio Jones (Round 1)
                               Melvin Gordon (Round 5)

Kept: Julio Jones (Round 1)
          Melvin Gordon (Round 5)

Eugene keeps the same two guys he kept last year and who can blame him? He gets to start with both an elite receiver and elite running back. He also wisely decided to pick last in the 1st round, which means he'll get the 1st pick of the 2nd round to go with his keepers. Solid strategy there. Once again, Jones and Gordon will keep Eugene as a solid contender this year plus whatever he's able to come away with in the draft.

And that'll do it....next stop...the draft on Monday, September 3rd!
