Week 3 Matchups and Predictions

We're already into week 3 and I'll actually be going to the Cowboys-Redskins Monday night, so looking forward to that. It'll also have fantasy implications because I'll have Fred Davis and Albert will have Dez if he gives it a go. Here's this weeks matchups.

RuggedRaymontHarris (1-1) vs
Channel 4 News Team (0-2)

Overview: Albert is the last team in the league who hasn't won. This matchup is really too unpredictable in my opinion because there are two many variables that can change. On my side, I still haven't decided on a QB. Will I play it safe with Big Ben, or take the gamble with Romo? If I go with Romo and he doesn't play, I'd have to go with my emergency QB Rex Grossman. On Albert's side, he has to worry about Dez Bryant being inactive, and his RB situation. Arian Foster and Steven Jackson are both gametime decisions, and he has Ben Tate, Cadillac Williams, and Daniel Thomas to chose from. I'm banking on some kind of Ben Tate/Steven Jackson/Daniel Thomas combo, but we'll see. Albert has to QB advantage this week, as Matt Schaub should be in a shootout against the Saints. The Vikings secondary actually has been pretty good keeping both Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams in check for two weeks in a row. Of course Megatron is a beast, so it wouldn't surprise me if that trend ends. Steve Smith has a juicy matchup against Jacksonville and Dez if healthy will be huge as him and Jason Witten would be the only big targets Romo will have Monday night. Roddy White has been a disappointment and I see the trend continuing against the Bucs. Vincent Jackson will have to carry my receiving team again as he plays the Chiefs and I have no confidence in Eric Decker (big time risk here) and White. Ahmad Bradshaw and Lesean McCoy play each other, hopefully we'll see some time big time running. Bradshaw has pretty disappointing so far, but he's the best I got, so I have to roll with him. I have two more risky plays (Fred Davis and Arizona D) that could go either way. While Albert has Jermichael Finley and a Pittsburgh D playing against a very bad Colts offense.

Yahoo Says: I win 93-91
I say: Albert Wins, on top of the fact I have a really weird superstition about picking myself to win, I think Albert has more safe matchups than me. My QB situation, Defense, WR #3, and TE are all question marks, and that's too many problems to be confident in winning this week.

Take Dat Wit Chu (2-0) vs
Salt & Vinegar Chips (1-1)

Overview: Kenny's going to try to stay undefeated against Mike Posey this week, and I've got to say, it might be difficult. No real WR #3 and now Miles Austin is out means Kenny's going to have to pair Fitzgerald with Deion Branch and Devery Henderson, both far from locks. They could seriously go either way. Kenny's confidence in Felix Jones is gone, so now he turns to Ryan Mathews who has an excellent matchup against the shitty Chiefs. Peyton Hillis should also do good against the Dolphins. Aaron Rodgers has the Bears D, but of course that doesn't mean he'll suck, but Posey's got Tom Brady against the Bills which should be a shootout and I give the QB edge to Posey this week. Tony Gonzalez surprised people last week, we'll see if he can do it again against Tampa, and the Ravens have the Rams, so that's a good defensive matchup. On Posey's side, besides Tom Brady, he can take some of Aaron Rodgers points away because he has Greg Jennings. Percy Harvin and Lance Moore will be just as unpredictable as Deion Branch and Devery Henderson. Michael Turner and BenJarvus Green-Ellis had great games last week, but with the Pats, you never know who's gonna be the main RB there. Mike Posey is notorious for not  checking his team, and right now Gates doesn't look good to be playing. If he doesn't play and Posey doesn't pick up another tight end, that's gonna be a real blow to Mike's chances at winning. San Diego D against Kansas City is also a good matchup.

Yahoo Says: Kenny wins 96-92
I say: Kenny wins, I have a bad feeling Gates won't play and Mike won't check his team before game time which means one player down off the bat. Though everything else is kinda close, I think that might be the thing that costs Posey a W.

Dr. Wily's Robots (1-1) vs
The Bad Bobofies (1-1)

Overview: After last week's slaughter of Ryan, Matt's looking for an encore performance from his guys. Though it's doubtful he'll get that same kind of production from everyone, look for Matt to still have great games from Philip Rivers, Kenny Britt, Brandon Marshall, and Adrian Peterson, all primed with great matchups. Dustin Keller could have another good game against the Raiders as well. Dwayne Bowe is hindered by a horrible offense, but maybe if the Chargers game is shootout he'll get some production. Frank Gore's been a fantasy disappointment so far, and the Bengals defense hasn't been that bad against the run. The celebration for dad and his first ever fantasy football win is over and now dad looks to knock off his nephew and go for 2-1. Brees against the Texans smells like a shootout, if Chris Johnson can't do any damage against the Broncos, then maybe we'll have a problem after all. Desean Jackson gets the Giants, and with Michael Vick playing, that should be good. Burleson and Holmes could do OK as well, and Brandon Jacobs should take advantage of bad Eagles run D.

Yahoo Says: Matt wins 100-95
I say: Matt wins,  I think it'll be close, but Matt has more guys that have the potential to go off in my opinion.

Shredders (1-1) vs
Hooiser Daddy (1-1)

Overview: I've never seen a team with so much turnover due to injuries/trades so early in the season like Zach's team. Jamaal Charles, Peyton Hillis are both gone, Vick had a concussion, Brandon Lloyd has already missed a game, and Aaron Hernandez is out, it's been a crazy couple of weeks. The problem here is consistency at running back. Losing one of your leading running backs to injury and another to trade, leaves you a grab bag of 3rd and 4th tier running backs. Cedric Benson might also be facing suspension as well which would leave Willis McGahee, Mike Tolbert, and CJ Spiller as Zach's only RB options. This week,  Zach's going with McGahee and Tolbert. Not sure if that'll work or not. On the WR as well, there is no solid #1, so it's mix and matchup and even then as of right now Brandon Lloyd and Stevie Johnson are on his bench as he goes with David Nelson, Jordy Nelson, and Jeremy Maclin. Last week, the trade for Nelson/Maclin worked wonders, but remember Nelson didn't have points until a late score in the 4th. Maclin is solid, but I still am not sold that trade was enough for Peyton Hillis. Vick's active which is a plus and at least Zach can plug Vernon Davis back in to replace Hernandez. Washington's D is an interesting play against the Cowboys as well. On Ryan's side, he'll finally get to utilize Cam Newton, and if he performs how he's performed the first two weeks of the season, Ryan might survive drafting Peyton Manning after all. Excellent gamble on Ryan's part to grab Newton after week 1, it might save his season. Mendenhall should have a HUGE game against the Colts, while the focus on the running game might affect Mike Wallace, he's still startable cause it's a beatable matchup. Mike Williams of Tampa Bay will look to rebound from a scoreless week and Anquan Boldin against the Rams could be solid. MJD gets the Panthers, and I could see him having a good game as well. Jimmy Graham is a must start against the Texans.

Yahoo Says: Ryan Wins 95-84
I say: Ryan Wins, Zach's proved me wrong before, but I think the Newton/MJD/Mendenhall combo is dangerous enough to secure a victory.

Da Boyz (1-1) vs
The_Twin_Killers (1-1)

Overview: And the last matchup of the week pits Cindy against Leeland. The Twin Killers receivers are reeling now the Mario Manningham is out. How can you trust Mike Sims Walker and Jabar Gaffney as your #2 and #3? At least he still has Matt Stafford, Matt Forte, Hakeem Nicks, and Ray Rice who are capable of big games and carrying a whole team on their own. Rob Gronkowski, has also been a top flight TE and with Aaron Hernandez gone, he'll become even more a focal point for Brady especially against the Bills. If Cindy sticks with Jay Cutler, it might not be too bad, but Reggie Wayne against Pittsburgh? Smells like a low scoring game to me. Andre Johnson couldn't ask for a better matchup against the Saints. Expect a big game from him. This is put up or shut up for Shonn Greene as he plays the Oakland Raiders. McFadden is on the flip side of this matchup and expectations should be lowered a little since it is the Jets defense. Welker and Owen Daniels both have great opportunities and could be difference makers in this match.

Yahoo Says: Cindy Wins 92-88
I say: Leeland Wins, I'm not saying McFadden will suck, I just don't like the matchup too much and I've never believed in Shonn Greene. I think Stafford, Forte, Nicks, Rice, and Gronkowski find a way to hide the wide receiver weakness of Leeland, and he'll get the win and go to 2-1.

  1. Looking for Gronk to have a huge game with Hernandez out. Forte is a ? vs the Packers but he's Cutlers safety valve. Jay will be running for his life during the game. In all my league that we have IDP Clay Matthews is a must start. BTW just a small fix but my name is spelled Leland not a biggie had it spelled worse.

  2. Sorry about that! Yeah even with Hernandez there it seems Brady loves Gronk, with him out makes it even better. I think the same way about Forte, even if he gets stopped rushing wise, his receiving numbers will be good, that's what a I love about the rb's you have, the dual rushing/receiving threats
