Week 4 Recap: Chasing History

Image result for shock the monkey
As commissioner and league blogger, my voice is heard the loudest and I'm really the only one who publicly critiques the teams in our league, my team included. I'm not an expert and I always forewarn on my draft grades not to take what I say as gospel or anything, as it's solely just my opinion and it's as flawed as anyone's would be. I can definitely admit when I'm wrong and it looks like with Mark's team..I was wrong. I'm willing to admit that now, because the first 3 weeks I wrote off (and went in great detail) about how Mark was simply winning because of teams not playing well against him. This week though..he played a really good title contender team in Eugene and not only beat him, but beat him by outscoring him in a high scoring affair. This wasn't a "Eugene's guys are underperforming and Mark lucks out again" win, no it was all systems go and Mark's guys played sensational and blew up for 130 points, 2nd most points in the league this week. You combine that with a shocking trade made yesterday where Leland gave up on David Johnson for Tyler Boyd and it's definitely time to take Mark as a serious contender to do something no one has done since Albert in years 1 & 2 repeat. Mark's the only undefeated team left and he's now won an unbelievable 12 straight matchups dating back to last year. Time to stop shrugging off Mark folks..the addition of David Johnson boosts this team to an elite level. Mark is also chasing history with this win streak. I never thought Mayra's 14 game winning streak would ever be challenged, but here we are and Mark's 12..2 away from tying. His next two opponents are Leland and Matt..not exactly pushovers and IF he were to get through them..the potential record breaker would be against the last person who beat him...ME. It's definitely something to keep an eye on for sure. Here's this weeks results.

Week 4 Notes: Well, in another close one that was decided by Monday Night, I narrowly escape with a victory against Ryan. Alvin Kamara did what he does best...SAVE MY ASS. I was DOA until he scored not 1, not 2, but 3 TD'S and it was that 3rd TD that gave me the shot I needed to get back into my matchup. It was such a meaningless TD, the Saints were literally just running the clock out when Kamara blitzed by with a 49 yard TD. The dude is unreal and is basically just carrying my team on his own as the rest of my squad has been a tad disappointing the last couple of week. My biggest worry is once again Jordan Howard as he's the most frustrating player to own in all of fantasy (I went through this LAST YEAR and decided to put myself through it AGAIN). For Ryan, he's gotta be frustrated himself with Leonard Fournette. He once again reaggravated his hamstring injury and left the game in the 2nd quarter and never returned. In game injuries are the worst and Fournette has been consistently injured all year. Not even a career game from Zeke could get Ryan over the hump this week. He's still 2-2 and there's no need to panic as he takes on Kenny next week. I totally feel like next week is a "trap game" as I'm such an overwhelming favorite against Alex. I never take anything for granted though so I'm not gonna treat it as a gimmie win. As long as Matt has Mahomes going, he's going to be in all of his matchups and he picked a pretty easy victory this week against Drew. Mahomes was magnificent last night in real life and for fantasy and Adam  Thielen continues to prove just how elite he is. My only worry with Matt's team is Gio Bernard has been a huge part of his team's success and when Joe Mixon comes back (probably this week) his production will get sliced pretty drastically. Kerryon Johnson has been a pleasant surprise, but the Lions refuse to give him a heavier workload. And of course there's always Gronk and his health. Matt's team is a wild card that you really don't know what you're going to get. He's got a tough matchup against Eugene next week. For Drew, just a pretty disappointing effort from everyone other than Todd Gurley and John Brown. It's not every week that Drew Brees scores single digits, but there is concern with the health of Dalvin Cook and Will Fuller. At full strength, Drew's a formidable team for sure, it's just a matter of when Drew's team will get there. Damn how about my Dad! Puts up the most points for a week in this season with 161! It's been an uneven start, but this right here is why I say it's Dad's best shot a championship. His team was firing on all cylinders and Kenny just didn't stand a chance this week. This is also continues this bizarre streak of teams that win the Blowout Of The Week end up on the opposite end of the Blowout themselves the next week. It's now happened to me, Albert, and now Kenny. Kenny was hoping for a 2-2 start before he got Edelman and Ingram back from suspension, but unfortunately he ran into two hot teams at the wrong time. The 2 good things are that since everyone is beating each other up, Kenny's only 1 game behind for 3rd place and he will not only get Edelman and Ingram back in the fold, but Christian McCaffrey has already had has bye so he has them the rest of the way. He'll take on Ryan next week, while Dad faces another team that's been hot lately in Mike. So Speaking of Mike..after an 0-2 start in which he was putting up points just running into high scoring teams, Mike has now won 2 in a row and just obliterated Albert. Mike continues to put up solid scoring, with a 119 point effort as he's got a pretty well rounded team. I said he was a legit team and we're seeing it now. For Albert, this has to be alarming. That's two straight weeks where he hasn't been able to up 75 points. That's even with Cousins/Diggs going off. Beckham has been a massive disappointment because of Eli Manning's suckage, and the injury to Mixon and totally shitty play of Bust Kenyon Drake has really dragged Albert's team down. Might be time to make a move or two, because there's a lot of deep teams out there and he gets Drew's team next who's no slouch. Well Leland FINALLY got win #1 but even that was struggle as Alex put up a hell of fight before Kareem Hunt sealed the deal for Leland on Monday Night. Even though David Johnson had a pretty good game, Leland apparently has had enough and has given up on his 14th round keeper in exchange for Tyler Boyd. I'm not going to lie, that's a little bit of a head scratcher to me, as I think if Leland had actively shopped DJ, he could've still gotten something more, but he really likes Boyd so he did the deal. We'll see how that turns out. For Alex, valiant effort but he just doesn't have the firepower to win shootouts. If he's going to win matchups, it's gotta be because his opponents guys are sucking (man I'm setting myself up for MASSIVE FAILURE). The semi good news is he might get Le'Veon Bell back in Week 8 but by that time it might be too little too late. Alex takes me on next, while Leland tries to be the guy to stop Mark's 4 game winning streak...and speaking of Mark..I basically dedicated the opening of this recap to him but just to reiterate this by far has been most impressive win. Not only because of the quality of his opponent, but because his team had to overcome a team capable of putting up 120+ on a regular basis and they got the job done. With the addition of David Johnson, this team becomes even more scary. For Eugene, just the typical case of 3rd highest scorer runs into the 2nd highest scorer. It happens and it's really nothing to fret about. As if his Wide Receivers weren't dangerous enough, it looks like Calvin Ridley is the real deal. I know that made Jarvis Landry expendable but damn I would've tried to get a little bit better of a running back as so far Miller has looked TERRIBLE this season. He's only got the job because there's no one else, but when D'onta Foreman comes back, he might threaten his starting job. And that'll do it for Week 4!
