Thursday Night Overview/Week 9 Awards

Cleveland Browns v Baltimore Ravens : News Photo
It's like I said in the Matchups and Predictions post...we're at the point of the season where EVERY PLAYER DECISION COUNTS. And boy was that ever true tonight. What seemed like a mundane game was for the most part, but there were a couple of nice plays...but a TON of disappointing ones too that might affect how the rest of the week goes. Let's start by giving kudos to Mark. Mark seemed to be struggling with his QB decision this week going from Blake Bortles to possibly Trevor Siemian to mid afternoon picking up Joe Flacco. Flacco is such a weird QB for fantasy purposes. I remember that game a couple seasons back he threw 5 TD's in ONE QUARTER against me...he has those type of games every once in a blue moon and it makes you think "Man, if he plays a suck ass defense..he'll DOMINATE" and he sucks you in to use him as a QB streamer...and typically he wets the bed. He's been TERRIBLE this season so far with juicy matchups, but regardless this is the Browns and Mark took the high risk and got paid HANDSOMELY for it. Flacco had a shitty first half, but bounced back with 294 yards ,3 TD's (he did throw two dumb picks) and a little over 26 points. For a spot start QB streamer...that's MORE than great and it actually turns his matchup against Mayra into a legit game. There was bad news though, Gary Barnidge caught one ball for 8 yards so Mark's already wasted his TE spot, and in a spot against a superior team you need all your guys to show up. Still, for Mayra, Mike Wallace was disappointing with only 4 catches for 59 yards. Mayra definitely needs to be worried as this could be the beginning of a pretty huge upset. For the most part, it feels like the bad games that guys had won't affect most matchups only because each team who had crappy games seemed to play a team who had the same luck. Case in point...Drew and Dad. Terrence West didn't do much for Drew, 77 total yards, but Dennis Pitta sucked for Dad with 6 catches for 26 yards. Same with Mike and Matt, definitely more disappointing for Matt as he had two players go and combine for barely 10 points (hard to trust two Browns like Crowell and Corey Coleman) and don't get me wrong, that's a very bad start but at the very least Mike didn't take advantage with his one play as Terrelle Pryor only had 5 catches for 48 yards. Someone who was disappointied had to be Eugene as Duke Johnson did nothing of note really with 3 catches and 31 total yards, but it might not actually affect him much because he's still a heavy favorite to win this week. The only person who got a great play and remained unscathed was Ryan...surprise surprise. Steve Smith got in the end zone, got Ryan 14.5 points and it's a great start of the week against Leland's team. So yeah..outside of Flacco and Steve Smith...horrible all around game fantasy wise. Here are the Week 9 Awards.

Wane McGarity Stud Of The Week
Mike Evans (Bay Area Tanners)
Atlanta Falcons v Tampa Bay Buccaneers : News Photo
The BIGGEST reason my playoff hopes aren't dashed yet. Evans' 11 catch 150 yard 2 TD performance was amazing and with a lot of my guys with terrible matchups against a formidable team like Alex's, I'm going to need this kind of herculean effort again. It's lot to ask for, but if anyone can do it, it's Mike Evans.

Michael Wiley Dud Of The Week
Devontae Booker (THE SPOILER)
Denver Broncos vs Oakland Raiders, NFL Week 9 : News Photo
He was supposed to be the next big thing in Denver after C.J. Anderson got hurt. The next RB1 in the Broncos storied lineage of plugging in running backs and them being successful. Plus, he couldn't ask for a better matchup against a terrible run defense in the Raiders. He'd prolly score AT LEAST 20 against them...except he didn't and only ran for 22 yards..and on top of that might now lose work to KAPRI BIBBS this week. Drew's worked plenty of magic this season, but this time it just didn't pan out. Ugh..the mighty fell fast.

Drew Bennett Sneaky Surprise Award
Tim Hightower (Bay Area Tanners)
New Orleans Saints v San Francisco 49ers : News Photo
My record doesn't reflect it, but I've made some pretty good lineup decisions throughout the season and this was another one. With Spencer Ware out with a concussion, and LaGarrette Blount on Bye, I needed some RB help to get me through last week's critical matchup. I used my waiver claim on Hightower and hoped Sean Payton wasn't bullshitting and that Hightower would indeed be more involved in the Saints offense. Mark Ingram isn't going away..in fact he solidified himself with a badass game, but Hightower was great as well with over 100 yards and a score. He ended up being my 3rd highest scorer in a week I needed it the most.

Jay Cutler Bad Decision Of The Week
Drew Plays C.J. Prosise over Cole Beasley
Dallas Cowboys v Cleveland Browns : News Photo
Funny how all the awards came from 1 matchup of two of the worst teams in the league lol. This wasn't a game loser, but still this season Drew's had this "Mad Scientist" strategy that's had its ups and down and ironically one of the successes was Cole Beasley. Beasley has actually been really good with Dak Prescott under center and in a matchup against the Browns, there was no doubt he'd probably have a solid game. Instead, Drew made a late decision to sub him out and try out C.J. Prosise, who was supposed to be more heavily involved in Seattle's offense. It didn't come close to working out. Prosise was terrible with 9 yards rushing and a catch for 6 yards. Beasley got 6 for 56 yards and a TD..not amazing but very solid. Sometimes trying to outcute your cute play just doesn't work.
