Thursday Night Overview/Week 8 Awards

Last night was another reminder of why teams left in the playoff hunt should take Alex's team very seriously in regards to a serious title run. I'll admit, if you remember the draft grades, I wasn't too fond of Alex's team. His record through the first four games of the season supported my beliefs as he struggled to a 1-3 start. Since then though he's rebounded nicely to a 4-4 record (it should be 5-4 after this week) and things are really starting to fall into place. He already added Eddie Lacy to the mix via trade, so the strong get stronger. His end of the year schedule? Not very intimidating, though he still does have Eugene on the docket and my Dad, both playoff contending teams, and both who have already beaten him earlier in the season. We'll see, but it would not surprise in the least if his team ended up making the final 2 and giving Mayra a serious run for her money. Thursday night was an excellent showing as Mark Ingram had his 2nd straight elite level performance in a row with 100 rushing yards and 2 rushing TD's. Hopefully the Saints will continue to give him the majority of the workload when Khiry Robinson and Pierre Thomas come back because he's certainly more than earned it. The big Ingram game helps hide an okish but not anything special Brees game. Brees almost threw for 300 yards and had a TD pass and he lost a fumble, but luckily a rushing TD salvaged his day. Honestly it's not necessary considering the opponent, but still it's nice to pile up points. You can never have too much of em. Drew will still be fine as far as winning this week, but with points being a premium, it's a shame to see Kelvin Benjamin held to 2 points. Benjamin is one of Drew's better players, but this week against me, it hardly matters. Leland's bid for upset of the century certainly isn't happening. Neither Cam Newton, nor Brandin Cooks came close to their projections and this has 50-60 point blowout written all over it. The prospects of Dad falling to .500 are real as it's looking like a sure thing Gio Bernard won't be playing. Dad had to use Deangelo Williams and he did nothing of note. Jimmy Graham was good with 80 and a score, but I think he needed a monster game from him to compete with Matt this week. Not looking good. The bad news for Albert is Greg Olsen did nothing really, 30 yards receiving. The good news, he's playing Kenny so he's more than fine. Kenny already wasted a Jonathan Stewart play where he got 4 points. Here are last week's award

Wane McGarity Studs of The Week
Rob Gronkowski (Winter Is Here)
Arian Foster (Channel 4 News Team)

Yep..I can't recall if this is the first co Stud of The Year Award..but they deserve it especially because of the low expectations both had at the beginning of the season. Both were written off as done and risky by a lot of experts and Foster is a big reason Albert only has 1 loss on the season, while Gronk has slowly but surely regained his elite TE form and has helped Alex turn around his season from bottom feeder to legit playoff threat.

Michael Wiley Dud Of The Week
Julio Jones (Rocket Man)

There was some very disappointing players, but I always use matchups as a way to break the ties. Eugene only lost by 5 points and Julio Jones is arguably his best player (at the very worst #2 behind Murray) and he just hasn't been putting up the big games recently. Scoring under 10 points is just brutal and if he just secures one TD on the day, Eugene wins and goes to 5-3, instead of being stuck right at .500. Just the wrong time to have a bad game.

Drew Bennett Sneaky Surprise Award
Greg Jennings (Channel 4 News Team)

Who seriously starts Greg Jennings in Week 8 of the 2014 season? Well Albert was forced to. The numbers are modest, 38 and a score, but those 10.5 points were more than I'd thought he'd get and what could've been a disaster start, ended up being a decent play.

Tony Romo Bad Decision Award
Dad Plays the Wrong QB Again

Yep..it happened again. So last week Dad plays Brady, and Russell Wilson goes off. This week, Dad plays Russell Wilson and Tom Brady goes off. Sometimes too much of a good thing IS a problem and that's the problem with Dad's QB's. It's very difficult to determine which one to start causing headaches every week. It could unfortunately lead to Dad not making the playoffs as the rest of the year goes on.
