Week 13 Results: Playoffs Are Set

Well..it wasn't as anticlimactic as everyone thought. The 2 teams with the best shot at getting the last two playoff spots, did what they were supposed to do and won. In fact, all 4 of the top seeds lost their matchups, which is pretty crazy. We now know the playoff teams are Dad, Me, Kenny, Mike, Mayra, and Mark with Me and Dad getting the byes. For Mayra and Mark, it's their first time in. A couple of random facts, none of the teams that placed in the top 3 last year made the playoffs (Leland, Albert, Ryan) and also none of the teams that drafted top 3 made it (Leland, Drew, Matt). Let's see how we got our playoff field for 2013.

Hoosier Daddy (4-9)           89.5
Next!!! (5-8)                       86.0

How ironic, that one of the closest matchups of the week is also the one with the least relevance. Despite playing in an active Julius Thomas, Ryan wins to end his season on a decent note. Ryan had a better team than his record indicated. His slow start was something he could just never recover from. The trades he made with me though, did jump start his team and this game was pretty telling on how good his team was. Though Eddie Lacy had a bad Thanksgiving, Ben Tate went off for 3 TD's, Cam Newton was awesome again with 3 total touchdowns, and Larry Fitzgerald added a TD. For Leland, how sickening is it that C.J. Spiller, the guy that on his own just destroyed Leland's chances this season, had has best game of the season when it didn't matter. He had 149 yards and a TD. Maybe he's auditioning for a 2nd chance for Leland. It was just a nightmare season and it'll all about to come to end for Leland. Josh McCown was really the only other relevant guy on  Leland's team with 355 and 2 scores. Leland and Ryan will be in the consolation bracket next week and face each other again.

Game MVP
Ben Tate (Hoosier Daddy)
102 rushing yards, 3 rushing TD's, 28 points
NFL: New England Patriots at Houston Texans

Bigger Balls (7-6)                    133.5
Not Even Lying (8-5)                 72

Now THAT is how you EARN a playoff berth! What a surprisingly DOMINANT WIN by Mayra and she gets a well deserved #5 seed in the playoffs. Her guys were firing on all cylinders, starting with a good start Thanksgiving. The guy that really came through was Alshon Jeffrey. Simply amazing. 12 receptions, 249 yards and 2 TD's for 42 points. Add nice games from Moreno and Vernon Davis and it was enough for Kenny to throw in the towel before Monday Night's game and start concentrating on the 1st round of the playoffs. With all the byes sealed up and also the playoff teams set, Kenny decided to bench Brees and Lance Moore in order to ensure the #4 spot. He's risking what would be a tougher 1st round matchup, in order to possibly play my Dad in round 2. This could definitely backfire in his Kenny's face, but he's confident his team has a better chance at unseating Dad than me. We'll see if that works. Not much else to say about Kenny's team, outside of his Thanksgiving plays, He did get double digit games out of Vereen, Clay, and Demaryius Thomas. Just wasn't enough against the offensive explosion. Kenny and Mayra will have a rematch in the 1st round of the playoffs. Should be very interesting to see if Kenny's master plan works.

Game MVP

Dr. Light's Robots (6-7)          99.5
Danny's Little Giants (8-5)     98

Well...thank my lucky stars Kenny and Mike lost cause I blew yet another shot to put the bye away. With their losses, I still kept the bye, but I'm losing confidence in my team by the second. A second straight week of underperfomances and that was after a solid Thanksgiving start. Unbelievable. It also marked my 3rd loss of 2.5 points and under. Out of my 5 losses, 4 were 5 points and under. Now, I can play like shit and stay competitive against non playoff teams like Matt and Leland, but in the final four, if I put up this crap again, I'll not only lose, but be blown out of the building. So frustrating. For Matt, it's bittersweet, he would've been next in line had Mark or Mayra lost. They didn't, and now that Week 12 loss by a point to Drew really sticks out like a sore thumb. The only other player on my team worth a crap this week was Chris Johnson. LeSean Mccoy was meh and once again my "star studded" receivers were quiet as V-Jax, Brandon Marshall, and Pierre Garcon all scored under 10 points. For Matt, I have NO CLUE why Yahoo had RGIII's projections so low. It's the Giants defense, how can you not think he'd be ok. He predictably was, with 20 points. Roddy White, after weeks of sucking, naturally did great against me, he had over 140 yards receiving. Andre Brown added two scores but the death knell? ZACH F'N MILLER. Matt had to make a last second add, as Jordan Reed was ruled inactive very late in the afternoon and he gambled on Zach Miller. IT PAID OFF. Of course it did. Miller's not even usually an option in the passing game, but he sure as shit was last night. He caught a 50 yard pass, that ended up setting up his TD. He also caught the final pass that made me lose. Could you IMAGINE how BEYOND PISSED I would be had I lost the bye because of THAT?! I'm still PISSED!!! Anyway, thankfully i get a well needed 1 week rest as I wait for the winner of Mike/Mark, while Matt gets a 1 week rest as well....unfortunately it's in the consolation bracket.

Game MVP
Zach Miller (Dr. Light's Robots)

I'm A Paul Heyman Guy (6-7)          105.5
Passion De La Puente (8-5)                  81

It's like NO ONE WANTED THE BYE!!!! All one of three had to do was WIN, and none of us did. This was basically over after Thanksgiving, although Posey did gain ground after Josh Gordon went BATSHIT INSANE with his 2nd 200+ yard receiving game in as many games. Mike would be kicking himself had he made that proposed Gordon for Trent Richardson trade early in the season. Gordon had 261 receiving yards and two TD's (including a 95 yarder) for 43 points. That's right Josh Gordon alone had half of Posey's points. The guy is like 50 yards behind Calvin in yardage and he was SUSPENDED FOR TWO GAMES. He's a beast. Too bad everyone else flat out sucked. Two 0 plays and outside of Romo, noone else even had 8 points much less double digits. Just brutal. It's the second time Marshawn Lynch has sucked on Monday night too. This is why you love Drew's running back combo. Complimenting Reggie Bush's nice Thanksgiving performance, Adrian Peterson had 211 rushing yards of his own. Put a better QB in this lineup, and this is a playoff caliber team. Drew played WR Roulette again, and though Keenan Allen (106 yards) and Michael Floyd (99 and a TD) were great, Hakeem Nicks sucked yet again, and Drew left a TD on the bench with Cecil Shorts. Sometimes too much depth can kill you and that's what Drew had all season with too many receivers with similar skill sets. Drew basically had everyone person he needed to lose, win anyway, so it's an empty win, but me personally thank you Drew for saving my bye! Drew will get a week to reflect before he gears up for the consolation bowl (he was the runner up last year). Mike is the #3rd seed and he'll take on Mark in Round 1.

Game MVP
Josh Gordon (Passion De La Puente)

Shock The Monkey (7-6)                  126
The Bad Robofies (10-3)                   84.5

It took 6 weeks, but Mark FINALLY gets Win #7 and despite a 5 game losing streak, he gets the final playoff spot by destroying Dad by 41.5 points. All the stars aligned for Mark this week.  Nick Foles was great with 3 more TD's and 23 points, Brian Hartline had a performance that won't be replicated by him again. 9 catches for 127 and a score for 22 points. Matt Forte was solid with 150 combined yards,  Steven Jackson turned back the clock and had over 80 rushing yards and 2 scores, Gronk and Brandon LaFell each had TD's. Just a perfect storm of performances when Mark needed it the most. This is the kind of performance that have people doubt how long Dad can last in the playoffs. Kaepernick wasn't bad with 275 and a score, and Andre Johnson had a nice PPR game with 8 catches for 121 yards as did Anquan Boldin with 9 for 98, but other than that nothing. Those RB's are just so beyond brutal, and though Jimmy Graham scored, he was held in check yardage wise. Dad's probably the one of benefits the most from a bye week, as he'd be in serious danger of getting bounced in Round 1. Instead, he'll enjoy the break and hope he can get his whole team to get it together and make some noise in the playoffs. Mark makes the playoffs by the smallest of margins, and now must see if he can keep momentum against Mike in Round 1.

Game MVP
Nick Foles (Shock The Monkey)

Springville-Warrior (4-9)             135
Channel 4 News Team (5-8)        101

Wow...talk about an outta nowhere performance. This was a team predicted to score 81 points. Eugene's team beat that projection by 54! Crazy doesn't even begin to describe it. After 3 straight Finals trips, 2 Championships, Albert is for once on the outside looking in. Albert ends his season on a 4 game losing streak.  It's crazy that a team with Peyton Manning, A.J. Green, Alfred Morris, and Frank Gore is not going to be in the playoffs. Albert's team didn't even play that bad, he scored over 100, it's just Eugene scored out of his mind. Peyton Manning threw 5 TD's for Albert...unfortunately 4 of them were to Eric Decker, who Eugene has. Decker finished with 45 points. Once again, Albert's RB combo was somewhat disappointing. They both scored TD's, but their yardage wasn't great. A.J. Green and Mike Wallace each had 80+ and a score just too much scoring to overcome. It started with Murray's 29 points along with Decker getting 45, noone else really had to do much. Julian Edelman had great PPR game with 9 catches for 101 yards and then the final insult...the cherry on top, Russell Wilson who had 310 passing yards with 3 TD's and 47 rushing yards for 28 points. Just a miserable way for Albert to end his season. For Eugene, he still finishes last place on the season with a 4-9 record. Him and Albert meet again in the 1st round of the consolation bracket this week.

Game MVP
Eric Decker (Springville-Warrior)
8 receptions, 174 receiving yards, 4 receiving TD's, 45 points
