Week 4 Results: 2 Undefeated Teams Left

Kansas City Chiefs v Pittsburgh Steelers : News Photo
I'd have to look back, but I don't remember there being 2 undefeated teams left after 4 weeks of the season. Last year, me and Dad were 3-0 but we faced each other in week 4. This year, not only are Ryan and Eugene still undefeated, but they have relative juicy matchups next week and there's a great chance both will be 5-0 going into Week 6. There seems to be a clear divide in teams this year as it's pretty obvious what teams are championship contenders and what teams will be more than likely playing for the Michael Wiley Loser Bowl. 5 of the 6 playoff teams already have 2 game leads over everyone so it really seems like only 1 spot is open (as crazy as it sounds, I know it's early, but we all know for sure now Ryan and Eugene are making the playoffs purely based on their fast starts, and Leland and Mayra should be shoo ins as well, Albert seems like he's the best to get the 5 spot which leaves #6 open to 7 teams). Doesn't seem like there's going to be some dramatic ending to the season this year..which sucks for some of us who after Week 4 are basically an inch away from being finished for the year. Here are the results from week 4.

Hoosier Daddy (4-0)                 178.90
Bay Area Tanners (1-3)              60.94

First things first..up to Sunday Night, I was thinking of putting the blog on hiatus because honestly...this has been the least fun I've ever had playing Fantasy Football (and no, it's not completely because of my record, though losing by a fluke 61 yard TD last week and losing by 118 points this week certainly doesn't help) and I'm just at the point where week to week I question why I even play this game anymore. At the end, I'll probably give in and put myself through this bullshit another year, but this is honestly the first time I've realistically thought about taking a break for at least a year. The blog doesn't help when I'm losing so embarrassing like because I have to relive every loss as I type which just angers me even more so I thought maybe taking a break from at least the blog would possibly help. Anyways, I decided that I'd swallow what little pride I had left and do the blog only because it's not fair to Ryan to discredit what he did, especially since I've been saying on this blog how lucky his 3-0 start was and how it had to end sooner or later. I could've done the snarky two word summary like last week, but it would come across as total sour grapes and Ryan deserves recognition for setting some league records and starting 4-0 to the season. He's had a couple of bad seasons the past couple years, so why should I belittle and shit on his team when things are going right? So here we are and yeah....this week was the ultimate example of when things just all go your way. Ryan's 178.90 breaks the old record of 168 points (held by Leland) of most points scored in a game all time. What makes the record even more remarkable, is that when Leland set the record, we were using 9 spots because we had a kicker and defense, when we eliminated both and replaced it with one flex spot, it meant we were only using 8 players a game instead of 9. Ryan also set the record for Biggest Margin of Victory All Time (ironically Albert owned this against Ryan) and he shattered it as it was 102 points and is now 118 points. It also means that I own biggest Margin of Loss of All Time which goes nicely with my other shitty records of Biggest Losing Streak Of All Time and Most Losses In A Season All Time....I'm such a winner at this game right? Every single guy on Ryan's team went off...Ryan's lowest point contributor? Devonta Freeman with 13.40. Michael Crabtree of all people had 3 TD's and 30 points, Roethlisberger threw for 5 TD's and nearly 39 points, Steve Smith chipped in 21 points, John Brown chipped in nearly 20..Ezekiel Elliott has really woken up and proven why he's considered the "second coming" and scored 22 points..Mark Ingram nearly had 20 points and even spot start Hunter Henry had 14.10. It was knockout blow after knockout blow and it became just hilarious. I've never seen it in my life where literally every other minute Ryan's guys were scoring TD's. This was one of those weeks where no matter what I did, I was going to lose (that was obvious with my Thursday start) but what made it THAT much more worse was that my team didn't even put up a fight. Nobody did shit outside of LeSean McCoy. It's one thing to lose to a team scoring the most points ever...but to barely put up 60 fucking points is embarrassing and I feel like I should quit over just being an overall shitty fantasy football player. You don't lose by 118 fucking points..you just don't. Terrible doesn't even begin to describe. It's one of "those years"...when I suck...I SUCK...legendarily SUCK. That's what happens when it's week 4 and you're already depending on lottery ticket fucks like Dwayne Washington (Spoiler alert...he got hurt) and fill in's like Spencer Ware (who sucks and was NEVER going to realistically take Jamaal Charles spot) because you totally butchered your draft. My team...is not good. Part of it...not making excuses is matchup based too...I couldn't have picked a worse group of guys who had the most terrible matchups to start the season. Everyone talks about "well they have a great playoff schedule" what does THAT matter if YOU AREN'T GOING TO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS!?! Also, what has year in and year out always been an Achilles Heel of mine...QB play....I NEVER get it right.....EVER. Even when I won my title...it was DESPITE my QB..Matthew Stafford did his best to torpedo that. I hate when "experts" say don't take a QB early...WHY NOT??? When you don't...you get fucks like Eli Manning and Andy Dalton....who have combined for 2 TD's passes in 3 fucking WEEKS. I just...I fucked everything up beyond belief..and after week 4, I don't even think I have half my originally drafted team anymore. It's not going to get any better...I haven't had bye weeks start...I can't win with a full roster...when bye weeks come along?? Please...ain't happening. It is what it is...my team isn't good. DeAndre Hopkins is getting screwed since it looks like Brock Osweiler and Will Fuller are apparently fuck buddies and have amazing chemistry, my team is literally Mike Evans and LeSean McCoy..that's it (and Evans hasn't had a decent matchup all season yet and he STILL WON'T because he plays the Panthers next, I can't win with these fucking dreadful matchups). So enough of my whining...back to Ryan...he needed this as validation that his team is legit and it is. He might not have that "star" receiver, but his running back group is good enough that solid #2's and #3's like Crabtree and Steve Smith along with Big Ben are good enough to keep this team going. Ryan also couldn't ask for a better schedule (total record of teams he's played so far 4-12 and Dad and his 0-4 record are next) so it seems like a given he'll at least make the playoffs. He'll just have to hope it's sustainable against other playoff caliber teams...but after a performance like this...I think he'll be ok. Like I said he'll take on Dad next week while I take on Matt...at least I won't be Matt's first victim as he won this week, but I will be victim #2.

SCLSU MudDogs (1-3)               77.58

This was ugly and just another bad loss for Alex, who with these past two matchups could be 3-1, instead of 1-3. Put in perspective..Ryan would've beaten both of these teams together by around 13 points. Matt got nothing from Gronk and Jamaal Charles (2.3 points total) and still got a much needed win to avoid going 0-4. Despite injury concerns, Russell Wilson had over 300 yards passing and 3 TD's. Isaiah Crowell continues to defy logic and produce nice RB1 numberes with over 100 and a score and Kelvin Benjamin and Allen Hurns both added TD's a piece. For Alex, opportunity missed even with Le'veon Bell back in the mix. The good thing is Bell looked great with 178 total yards, the bad news, the rest of his teams looked awful with the exception of Carlos Hyde who had 74 and a score. Alex has a super difficult matchup next week against Leland and he'll be without the services of Drew Brees who has a bye. If things go to plan (which we all know they don't but if they do) Alex might be staring at a 1-4 record. Matt will have a good chance to get win #2 against me and my struggling team next week.

THE SPOILER (2-2)                90.82
No Soup For You (2-2)              76.42

Wow...if not for my epic 118 point loss...this would be the story of the week. This is hands down probably the 2nd biggest upset in our league behind Matt's championship win against Mayra. It wasn't pretty...but Drew somehow manages to get a win against a fully loaded Leland team with the likes of Tajae Sharpe, Cole Beasley, Terrance West, Bobby Rainey, Coby Fleener, and Kyle Rudolph. Just crazy....seriously crazy. Peterson's done for the year...Donte Moncrief is hurt for multiple weeks, Shane Vereen is done for the year, and Eddie Lacy and Ryan Mathews were both on byes and Drew still manages the impossible. I believe Drew was a 30 point dog in this matchup. Thanks to Kirk Cousins, Terrence West, Allen Robinson and Kyle Rudolph, Drew is 2-0 since the devastating Peterson injury. For Leland....man...bad loss..still not worried...but it's as bad a loss as you can have. Only Demaryius Thomas showed up for Leland and only Todd Gurley (just barely) and David Johnson scored more than 10 points along with Thomas. The only thing I can say is..this is better proof than Leland's first loss (against his undefeated Brother by only 4 points) that any team can beat any team on any given week. Drew's definitely playing the spoiler part very well. If Drew got knock off both Lawrence brothers back to back...it'd be the greatest feat in the league's history. He faces Eugene next week, while Leland takes on Alex in Week 5.

This was kind of over when A.J. Green exploded Thursday night, but for a small window in the London game Sunday Morning, Dad was actually favored as for 3 quarters Andrew Luck and TY Hilton were terrible and Frank Gore was having a great game for Dad....and then just like against me..Luck did his 4th quarter crap including a TD to Hilton and that was that. Albert never looked back. Will Fuller was a beast for him with 7 catches for 81 and a score. He also had a Return TD. Zach Miller added a TD, and Jordan Howard added 132 total yards in his first game as a starter for the Bears. For Dad, he just can't catch a break..it was actually a solid performance in a losing effort as he was actually the 4th highest scorer in the league this week...just played the wrong team. Cam Newton was disappointing and on top of that might have suffered a concussion which puts his Week 5 in danger. Brandon Marshall had a great game with 89 yards and a score and Emmanuel Sanders had 88 and a score as well. Greg Olsen got lucky with some garbage time points with 76 yards, a TD and a 2 point conversion. Even desperation play Orleans Darkwa had a TD for Dad but it just wasn't enough. So Dad remains the only winless team left in the league and it doesn't get any easier as he takes on Ryan next week. Albert has a tough matchup himself as he takes on Mayra in the battle of 3-1 records.

And Mayra's undefeated start to the season will stop at 3 as she loses pretty easily to Mike this week. It could've and should've been even worse but both Stefon Diggs and Odell Beckham Jr had terrible games for Mike and though it might not seem like a big deal, points are crucial so it was a big missed opportunity there. Seemed like Mayra was doomed from the start as she started an inactive Julius Thomas. For most of the London game though, it looked like it might not matter as Phillip Dorsett hadn't done anything of note....until the 4th quarter when Luck hit him with a 64 yard TD to save his day. Also what looked like a understandable move of the time, Mayra played Dak Prescott over Matt Ryan...Dak was good with nearly 250 yards and 2 scores but Matt Ryan WENT OFF against the Carolina D with 500 passing yards and 4 TD's! Again, one of those things were Fantasy Football is cruel because everyone expected Matt Ryan to struggle against the Carolina Defense. Matt Forte has definitely come back down to earth, as he was held to 27 rushing yards this week. That's two straight games he's been below average after a blazing start. Lamar Miller continues to get 1000 carries again but after 4 games still has 0 TD's. That's gotta be a little concerning, but at least he's still putting up yardage. Amari Cooper and DeSean Jackson have been struggling as well and it's scary to see Michael Crabtree getting a ton more red zone looks than Amari. Antonio Brown of course did his thing as usual...because he's Antonio Brown. He had 64 and 2 scores. I know Mayra's very disappointed in her team this week..but for her sake hopefully it's just one of those bad games that everyone has. For Mike, he bounces back thanks to Derek Carr (nearly 200 yards and 4 scores) and Jordan Reed (73 yards and 2 TD's). C.J. Anderson and Terrelle Pryor both chipped in TD's. Mike's gotta get more production from those wide receivers. Beckham's been mediocre all year, and Diggs has slowed down after his fast start. I think they can bounce back..but it's 4 games in now so you'd like to see signs of improvement fast. Regardless of the struggles, Mike is 2-2 and will take on Mark's struggling team next, while Mayra has another difficult matchup on the dock with Albert.

Rocket Man (4-0)                    140.06
Shock The Monkey (1-3)           75.92

Ho hum...and between my implosion, Ryan's remarkable run, Leland's shocking loss, there's Eugene...just taking care of business, winning by over 60 points while putting up 140 without Aaron Rodgers and remaining undefeated. Wanna know why Eugene keeps Julio Jones every year? Sunday is EXACTLY why. 300 yards and a TD for a whopping 42 points. That's more than half of Mark's total team score. That guy is unreal. Melvin Gordon CONTINUES to produce high as he added two more TD's to his season total. Last year he had zero TD's. Even Matt Jones got into the act this week with 138 total yards and a score. Brock Osweiler did enough to hold the fort down with 254 and 2 scores (he did throw 2 picks too, but fuck it, he'll never be used again now). Travis Kelce got a garbage time TD and Maclin scored over 10 points and Eugene just keeps on trucking and beating everyone in sight. For Mark just another disappointing week scoring wise, though honestly I don't think he would've won this week regardless as Eugene's guys just went off. Carson Palmer has been a huge disappointment and is iffy for Week 5 with a possible concussion, only DeMarco Murray scored double digits outside of Palmer. Murray's been the only bright spot on Mark's team so far as he regained that RB1 status from his Dallas days. He had 95 rushing yards and 2 TD's. Alshon Jeffrey has been really disappointing, as has Latavius Murray he continues to lose work by the week. Hasn't been a great start to the season for the 2nd place finisher of last year. Mark will take on Mike next week in another tough matchup, while Eugene takes on Drew in which could be a trap game.
