So even though it took 9 weeks to happen and my season is in the toilet, Thursday night was FINALLY good to me as Mike Evans WENT OFF last night with 11 catches for 150 yards and 2 TD's, while Jameis Winston had one of my better QB performances (which isn't saying much really, but still) with 3 TD's passes. I got over 57 points combined for the two and though you would think that would give me enough confidence to think I'm going to take this matchup against DREW of all teams, it doesn't. I'm going to be without Spencer Ware still which is a huge blow and all this does was make it a competitive game that gives me a CHANCE to win, but it's far from a guarantee and I still believe Drew's the favorite because somehow Kaep, Terrence West and Cole Beasley will lead this team to victory because they just will. Now...my good Thursday didn't come with a PRICE (of course not) because the underlying news is both Jameis Winston and Mike Evans got hurt towards the end of the game. Evans caught an AMAZING one handed catch but got hit viciously as he caught it. I was surprised he was able to come back in. So he's in concussion protocol...which hopefully with 10 days between days he'll pass. Jameis got hurt trying for a two point conversion...I don't know how bad it is, but he never came back in the game, but that could be more precautionary since it was a blowout because he did have his helmet on like he was ready to go back out. Anyways, that news only matters if I win this week, if not, it's irrelevant because I'd be done 100%. Mike Evans though makes me sad. Why? Because he's a beast of a talent and he's stuck on my shitty 2-6 team. Teams don't have guys 1/10th the talent of Mike Evans...yet they keep winning and here's Evans beasting game after game...for nothing. Such a waste. Anyways, what made this Thursday night a little more intriguing than others is the number of dart throw plays due to bye weeks. We saw quite a few, some worked (Austin Hooper for Matt, and Adam Humphries for Mike both scored TD's and exceeded expectations. Also, Mike got a decent game from Peyton Barber who finished near his projected points with 7.5 points) some didn't (Terron Ward was a dud for Leland, and he's definitely in danger of losing this week and falling to 4-5). Dad decided to use not only Devonta Freeman but Mohamad Sanu and unfortunately neither one of them met their projections. They weren't bad...but a little bit disappointing, especially Freeman who's Dad's best player. Freeman had a couple of chances to score at the 1 and couldn't convert. It just makes it that much harder for Dad to get win #1 against Mark now. Mayra vs Eugene meant Matt Ryan vs Julio. Matt Ryan was amazing with 344 yards and 4 TD's (he did lose a fumble, but still put up over 31 points). Luckily, Eugene was able to siphon some of that production for Julio as he had 111 yards and a score. Overall, great start for both teams, though the advantage still belongs to Mayra. That was definitely one of the more interesting Thursday night games in relation to fantasy football in a long time. Onto the Week 8 Awards
Wane McGarity Stud Of The Week
Derek Carr (Woe Is You)
Biggest reason why Posey was able to put a stop the Ryan's 7 game undefeated streak. Carr was amazing with over 500 yards passing and 4 TD's. He's helping carry Posey's injury riddled team to a winning record so far.
Michael Wiley Dud Of The Week
Mark Ingram (Hoosier Daddy)
Can't even find a picture of him playing against the Seahawks because HE BARELY played. I don't think anyone expected Ryan to go undefeated all season, but his streak ended with a big time dud. Ingram was so bad he scored -1.5 points for Ryan. Insane.
Drew Bennett Sneaky Surprise Award
Rob Kelley (Bay Area Tanners)
It wouldn't end up mattering, but this ended up being a really good play. When I heard Matt Jones was going to be out, I decided to take a chance on Kelley, even though most predicted Chris Thompson was going to be the guy to get the most work. To me, Thompson is more like Theo Riddick, a pass catching back who doesn't get too many carries, I felt Kelley was more the replacement for Jones' role. Desperate because Jerrick McKinnon was hurt, I took the chance and it paid off. Kelley had 87 and a score. Unfortunately, the rest of my team sucked overall and I lost to Mark's crap team, but regardless it was a great play so yay me for not being a dumbass every once in a while.
There is no Jay Cutler Bad Decision Award this week.
