Week 1 Results: Rod Streater....WHO?!

Never....ever in a million years would I have thought the guy above would have such a HUGE impact on fantasy football. But there he is...Rod Streater and his performance while nothing special in real life, was nothing less than magical in our fantasy league for my dad. In one of the craziest endings to a game ever (details below) Rod Streater's heroics (in the fantasy game) helped my dad pull off a miracle of all miracles comeback. Week 1 was full of unpredictability, suspense, injuries, and much more. Here's how week 1 shaped up

The Bad Robofies (1-0)           93
Hoosier Daddy (0-1)               89.5

Hands down the game of the week and a candidate for game of the year. This was a back and forth affair up to Sunday Night. Peyton Manning's 250 passing yards and two TD'd helped Ryan secure a 5 point lead going into Monday night. There was a problem though, Dad's 3rd receiver, Denarius Moore, was questionable heading into Monday's game. Dad had no choice but to chose a receiver from the only teams playing Monday Night. He chose to roll with Moore's backup, Rod Streater. It was an emergency plan, as it was assumed Moore would end up playing, giving Dad a slim chance at the W. As game time rolled around, Moore was ruled inactive and Streater was inserted into the lineup. His first catch couldn't be more devastating; he fumbled and lost the ball. He made a couple of catches, but for the most part was held in check as going into the 4th Dad still needed 6 points to win. It wasn't until the last drive of the game where the craziness happened. Twice in the last drive on a fourth and long, the Raiders didn't convert only to get bailed out by Chargers penalties. Finally with under a minute left it happened. Rod Streater caught a TD pass and just like that Dad had the game. Streater's 2 point conversion helped seal the deal. Dad's biggest problem last season was scoring points, and true to form, he had lowest point total of a winning team. But as they say, a W is a W, and Dad starts the season 1-0 in dramatic fashion. Dad will need to get more production from Cam Newton (300 yards but only 1 Passing TD and 2 Interceptions) and Wes Welker (Horrible game, 3 receptions 14 yards). Every offense player scored in double digits besides Welker. On Ryan's side, besides Peyton Manning only Shonn Greene surprisingly had a nice game (94 rushing yards and a score). Getting under 10 points from Larry Fitzgerald, Chris Johnson, and Greg Jennings is simply inexcusable, yet even with that, Ryan still had the game won with a minute left in the 4th of that Raiders game.  I'd expect a much better performance from Ryan's guys next week, but for this week, luck was on Dad's side yet again.

Richard Head (1-0)         111
The_Twin Killers (0-1)   107

This was an interesting match up to say the least. Things got a little testy between these two, as some trash talk was thrown around and it led to a fairly entertaining and close game. Mike Posey made a strategic move in starting Michael Bush over MJD and it paid off as Bush scored 2 Td's. It was a pretty balanced attack from Mike as Aaron Rodgers ended up with 23 points, and Steve Smith went over 100 yards receiving and had 13 points of his own. Tony Gonzalez scored a TD and proved yet again that despite his age he's still an elite TE option. We covered Dez's performance Thursday as he was decent yet disappeared when it counted in the 2nd half. Leland was already down a bad Eli and Victor Cruz performance, but thanks to an amazing Julio Jones game (2 tds, 100 yards) and a nice Doug Martin game, Leland wasn't exactly out of it going into Monday night with Ray Rice. Ray Rice was amazing (2 scores, 93 combined yards) but unfortunately he sat the whole 4th since the game was out of hand. Had he played, no doubt he could've easily gotten the points needed to beat Mike. Mike catches a break and starts the season off 1-0. These two will meet again later in the season, hopefully this is start of a little rivalry between these guys (hey, we need DRAMA, dammitt!).

Poseidon Angryyyy (1-0)    134.50
Breaking Bybee (0-1)          106

The curse has been broken! Despite a fast 39 point start from Tony Romo and Miles Austin, I managed to easily dispatch Kenny by 28.5 points in the biggest blowout of the week. Pierre Garcon's 18 first quarter points (including an 88 yard TD) helped pave the way, of course I lost him and Fred Jackson (1 pt) to injury early. Despite that I had Matt Ryan's league leading 31 pt performance (299 yards, 3 passing TD's and a rushing td) and a nice Forte game (despite Bush poaching two TD's). My team was so good that even my bench went off (Ridley, Spiller, Robert Griffin all over 20 points, Reggie Wayne 17.5 and Alshon Jeffery 15.5). Only Antonio Gates didn't get double digit points. David Akers even tied the longest field goal in a game record at 63 yards! Calvin had a modest 100 yard game but wasn't able to find the end zone. I thankfully handcuffed CJ Spiller so hopefully losing Fred Jackson won't hurt too bad. McCoy didn't find the end zone, but still rushed  for over 100 yards, and Gronk got a TD. Everyone else though on Kenny's team was pretty average. He'll need more from Brandon Lloyd, Jordy Nelson, and Jamaal Charles next week to avoid 0-2.

Top Players

Matt Ryan (Poseidon Angry) 299 passing yards, 3 passing TD's, 25 rushing yards, 1 rushing TD, 31 points (Week High)

Pierre Garcon (Poseidon Angry) 4 receptions, 109 yards, 1 TD (all in 1st quarter before injury) 18 points

Matt Forte (Poseidon Angry) 80 rushing yards, 1 rushing TD, 3 receptions, 40 receiving yards, 19.50 points

Tony Romo (Breaking Bybee) 307 passing yards, 3 passing TD's, 1 INT, 12 rushing yards, 24 points

Disappointing Players

Jamaal Charles (Breaking Bybee) 87 rushing yards, 8 points

Antonio Gates (Poseidon Angry) 4 receptions, 43 yards, 6 points

Fred Jackson (Poseidon Angry) 15 rushing yards, 1 point (left game with injury)

Dr. Wily's Robots     102
Chardee MacDennis   84

The bad news is Drew not only lost, but had the lowest points of the week at 84. The good news is, he now knows Adrian Peterson is good to go, and that Peterson/McFadden Combo is as lethal as you can get. If anyone could afford a loss it was Drew, and you can't blame him from playing Toby Gerhart over Peterson after it sounded like Peterson would be treated with kid gloves. He wasn't (80+ yards and 2 TD's) and Gerhart did nothing, helping lead Drew to a loss. Matt Stafford threw only 1 TD and 3 picks (did have 350+ passing yards) and DeSean Jackson and Justin Blackmon didn't contribute as much as they could've. Darren McFadden wasn't exactly great, but because of his 13 receptions, it helped bump him up to 17.5 points. Mike Wallace and Aaron Hernandez both scored TD's, but yardage wasn't really there. On Matt's side, Arian Foster was well Arian Foster (2 TD's, 19 points overall). Michael Vick was HORRIBLE against the Browns (4 picks) but 300+ passing yards and two passing TD's saved his day. We discussed Hakeem Nicks ugly game, and A.J. Green wasn't much better. Matt's team did just enough to win, but that's the scary thing, even doing just enough he still got the W. The upside of this team is scary, and I'll find out firsthand next week as we face off against each other.

Hakeem Nicks (Dr. Wily's Robots) 4 receptions, 38 yards, 5 points

Bigger Balls (1-0)                    135
Channel 4 News Team (0-1)    118

How's this for a debut. Mayra ends up playing the team with the 3rd most points this week and she wins comfortably. Did I mention she also knocked off the defending champion and scored the highest points in the league this week? Not a bad start at all. I guess I was very wrong about Frank Gore (over 100 rushing and a score). Drew Brees and Andre Johnson both were very good as was the Jets defense. Even Anquan Boldin got into the action with a TD. Is this a fluke or a sign of things to come? Keep in mind Mayra is doing this without Ryan Mathews. Albert had a tough break as he would've beating all but two teams in the league this week with his 118 points. Those running backs are going to kill Albert, and I'm surprised he got 118 with Richardson and McGahee in his lineup. Brandon Marshall and Demaryius Thomas had great games, Tom Brady could've been better (by Tom Brady standards), and Jimmy Graham contributed 17 points (75 and a TD).  How about 5 field goals for Nate Kaeding?? It all wasn't enough to match Mayra's firepower.
