Week 1 Results

Just like that Week 1 is in the books. The first week of the season is obviously early to start making any kind of predictions, but it is always nice to start the season out with a W. Here are the results for Week 1

Shock The Monkey (1-0)      101
Dr. Light's Robots (0-1)          59

Though not as bad as the sub 50 performance Mark put up in their last matchup, starting the season with a 59 point performance isn't exactly what Matt wanted to see. Jordy Nelson started out good Thursday Night, but it was allllllll downhill after that. Jamaal Charles was pathetically bad, as was Zac Stacy (They combined for 8.5 points). Jordan Reed got hurt (predictably) RGIII was awful (under 10 points) and Trent Richardson was...well Trent Richardson. The only solid spot was Matt's wide receivers who basically made up most of the 59 points as Andre Johnson and Emmanuel Sanders both chipped in 12 and 11 points respectively. Charles will definitely bounce back, but I've never been a Zac Stacy believer and this is why. If he doesn't watch it, Benny Cunningham might take his starting job. For Mark, it was vindication for taking Matt Ryan in the 3rd round. He was magnificent with 448 passing yards and 3 passing TD's. As long as his weapons stay healthy and the Falcons  D stays shitty, Ryan should reap the rewards big time. Matt Forte of course had an excellent game with over 160 total yards. Montee Ball chipped in a TD, and Mike Wallace was actually excellent with 81 and a score (though he did fumble). Toby Gerhert already got hurt, though he played through it and didn't do much. It's an ankle injury so it's definitely something to keep an eye. Michael Crabtree did nothing of note, neither did Charles Clay and though Eric Decker caught 5 passes, it was really irrelevant as Mark cruised with ease with victory #1. Mark will take only Leland next week while Matt looks for victory #1 against Ryan.

Game MVP
Matt Ryan (Shock The Monkey)
448 Passing Yards, 15 rushing yards, 30 points
New Orleans Saints v Atlanta Falcons

JTG'S Warehouse (1-0)        130.5
The Bad Robofies (0-1)         94.5

It's not that Dad played all that terrible as 94.5 is a decent score, but he ran into a buzzsaw in Drew. Julius Thomas went bananas with 3 TD's and 31 points to lead the way. Rookie Kelvin Benjamin showed why I wanted him so bad, with 92 and a score. Julian Edelman has 6 for 95 as well while Adrian Peterson was pretty disappointing with only 93 total yards. C.J. Spiller added a TD, and Drew had to spot start Zach Ertz because of the uncertainty of Andre Ellington and it worked out pretty well (77 and a score). Depsite two picks, Jay Cutler still threw for almost 350 and two scores. Just a lights out performance and this was a mediocre AD. For Dad, Tom Brady and Torrey Smith disappointed big time. Brady was terrible with two fumbles lost, under 250 passing yards, and 1 passing TD. Not going to win with your QB scoring under 10 points. Torrey Smith had 3 receptions for 50 yards but was mainly a non factor. Dad did get TD's from both Terrence Williams and Kendall Wright, and Gio Bernard wasn't too shabby with over 100 total yards. Alfred Morris had 91 rushing yards, but 0 catches. Knowshon Moreno was a beast with 134 rushing yards and a score. Excellent flex play by Dad and if he can play like this, Dad might have dangerous flex play for the season. Jimmy Graham had 8 catches for 82 but it's Jimmy Graham and you expect better. I still think Dad should be encourage because though Torrey Smith is notorious for up and down games, Brady will be better than he was this week. He still put up a respectable score. Next week, Drew has a tough matchup with Kenny, while Dad takes on Alex to see who will get their first win.

Game MVP
Julius Thomas (JTG'S Warehouse)
7 receptions, 104 receiving yards, 3 receiving TD's, 31.5 points
Indianapolis Colts v Denver Broncos

Rocket Man (1-0)            105.5
Winter Is Here (0-1)           91

I had a feeling Eugene would survive the big Marshawn Lynch game and I was right. Despite having no Cam Newton (Dalton filled in nicely though with 300 yards and a TD) Eugene still managed to overcome the initial deficit and pick up a pretty easy victory. Julio Jones went over 100 yards, Jeremy Maclin showed how he can be a great WR when healthy as he had 97 and a score and Eugene's PPR combo of Shane Vereen and DeMarco Murray combined for 33 points. Marty B was a great flex start as well with 70 yards and a score, though he might have to be counted on as Eugene's regular tight end as Jordan Cameron got hurt and his status is uncertain for next week as of today. Victor Cruz had a terrible game as that New York Giants offense is all out of whack. Regardless it was a terrific performance from a team that I think is gonna be a force this season. For Alex, no one really went off besides Marshawn. Brees was okish, but you expect more than 1 TD pass. Hakeem Nicks caught a TD pass, but you really can't count on that every week and T.Y. Hilton was pretty quiet. DeSean Jackson was ok as well, while Reggie Bush and Stevan Ridley combined for 11 points. Gronk did score a TD, so hopefully for Alex he keeps getting better and healthier because he's really going to need him to stay competitive. Alex takes on Dad next week and Eugene takes on me in what should be a difficult matchup for me.

Game MVP
DeMarco Murray (Rocket Man)
118 rushing yards, 1 rushing TD, 1 fumble lost, 3 receptions, 25 receiving yards, 18.5 points

San Francisco 49ers v Dallas Cowboys

Arturo's Beans (1-0)          119
Nexxxxt! (0-1)                   63.5

Uh ohhhhh..seems like Deja vu for Leland's team as he put up the 2nd lowest score of the week en route the biggest blowout of the week as I had no troubles winning Week 1. It was all down hill from the Aaron Rodgers horrible game. The one bright spot is that Brandin Cooks looked amazing and he could end up being one of the best steals of the late round. He led all of Leland's team with with 17.5 points. Keenan Allen struggled in a difficult matchup against Patrick Peterson, but you can tell Michael Floyd is a fantasy star in the making. He caught a beautiful 63 yard pass and ended up with 119 yards. It was just a bad week for Leland as he lost both starting running backs to injuries (Tate actually looked good before he left) and got little to nothing from the rest of his team. No doubt he can bounce back from this, I still say this is a team to reckon with. As for me, well Reuben Randle was dog shit (because "Worm Head" Eli Manning has hated me for YEARS..always fucks me over) and I have a legit problem at the 3 spot. I'm praying for the miracles of all miracles that Josh Gordon in reinstated, because that would solve that problem IMMEDIATELY. LeSean McCoy was kinda just ok, but still even in an OK game he still finished with over 100 yards total and 14 points. Chris Johnson proved for at least a week he has something still left in the tank as he finished with 91 total yards and a score. I'm totally comfortable starting him in the flex. Brandon Marshall fumbled and tweaked an ankle but still got 70 and a score, while Joique Bell chipped in a TD as well. Vernon Davis took the sting out of the Cowboys loss for me by scoring two TD's as well and Matthew Stafford was magnificent with over 340 yards passing, 2 passing TD's, a rushing TD, a 2 pt conversion, and no turnovers. Couldn't ask for a better start (other then Randle) to my season. I've got a rough matchup ahead for week 2 against Eugene,  while Leland will hope to turn his luck around against Mark.

Game MVP
Matthew Stafford (Arturo's Beans)
346 Passing Yards, 2 Passing TD's, 1 2 PT conversion, 2 rushing yards, 1 rushing TD, 29 points
New York Giants v Detroit Lions

Bigger Balls (1-0)            112.5
Baby Face Bybee (0-1)    105

I'd have to look back, but I'm pretty sure Kenny has a horrible record in Week 1 games. I know for sure this his is 3rd straight loss because he lost to me two years ago and Mark last year. Mayra gets her revenge from losing to Kenny in the playoffs. This was the closest matchup of the week, but it's kinda deceiving becuase Mayra was basically in control the whole time. I told you Antonio Brown was worth a keeper. He was great with 116 yards and a score. The surprising thing was Le'Veon Bell. I was kinda low on him, but thought where Mayra got him in the draft was a great pick. He was wayyyyy better than advertised. Over 190 total yards with a score (Blount vultured one from him too). If THIS is the Bell Mayra's gonna get...I'm worried more than ever. Pierre Thomas was a solid PPR play with 11 points. Kyle Rudolph was a tad disappointing but he still managed to score a TD, while Marques Colston had a good fantasy game (despite a fumble that cost him his real life game against Atlanta) with 110 yards receiving. It was a tale of two halves for Andrew Luck. It looked like Luck was in for a mediocre game but he turned it around in the 2nd half and ended up with 370 yards, 2 passing TD's and a rushing TD (though he threw 2 picks as well). The biggest disappointment was Dez..he was flat out horrible but Romo didn't help matters in the least. No way he repeats that performance. Fitz was awful too and barely targeted. Both guys should have bounce back games in week 2. For Kenny, his Kaepernick over Romo start worked, but mediocre performances by Demaryius Thomas, Vincent Jackson and Frank Gore (Despite an awesome matchup) did him in. Calvin Johnson did his best to make a comeback as he was his usual awesome self (164 and 2 TD's) and Ryan Mathews TD late cut the lead all the way to 5, but it wasn't enough and Kenny ends being the highest scoring team of the losing teams. Kenny will now have to face rival Drew for win #1, while Mayra takes on Albert in what should be a great matchup.

I think I tend to forget that Albert is a two time champion in this league. He's kinda of the forgotten team among contenders. Here's showing why he's definitely in it to win it. Dominating win against what I thought would be the better team. I like how 269 passing yards and 3 passing TD's seems just an average Peyton Manning game, when in reality it's damn good. A.J. Green was a terror with 131 yards and a nifty TD catch. That's 44 points from Albert's keepers. I think it's obvious he did a great job with that. We talked about Harvin in the last post, and that could definitely be the wild card for Albert's chance at title #3. Albert's shaping up to compete with best WR group as Cordarrelle Patterson proved he's not some overrated hype. He might have only had 26 receiving yards, but he's so dynamic he also added 102 rushing yards and a score. The more I look at Albert's team, the more I think I missed the boat on it. Arian Foster looked damn healthy, so there's another weapon at Albert's disposal. Although he fumbled, he finished with 120 total yards. He'll benefit from a generous schedule. Albert is still weak at the RB #2 position. Having to chose between Fred Jackson, DeAngelo Williams, and MJD doesn't really spark excitement. He didn't need the production this week, but you got to wonder if that'll bite him later in the season. Jason Witten was non existent and I'd worry just how fall he'll fall off, given Dallas would love to give Gavin Escobar more time too. It's funny, every year I mock those who take Anquan Boldin and every year Boldin shuts me the hell up. Granted it was against Dallas, but still in a PPR league, Boldin is a more the adequate flex play. For Ryan the Eddie Lacy play doomed him from the start. Nick Foles salvaged what was a horrible start after 2 fumble losses and a pick he managed to throw 322 yards and a couple of TD scores. Alshon Jeffrey was pretty disappointing and also exited the game with an injury that supposed to be minor. Roddy White showed that when he's healthy, he's definitely and elite option with 72 and a score. Pierre Garcon still got his but of course lack of TD's will always be a problem with him. Still as WR#3, he's fine. Jeremy Hill was A DUD..he barely played. That should change, but maybe Ryan should look somewhere else until Hill proves he's useful. Gotta love the Greg Olsen production even without Cam. 83 yards and a score. Olsen should be solid all year. Rashad Jennings was the only bright spot for the Giants, which is good news for Ryan. He's involved in the passing game and even scored a rushing TD. He finished with 17 points. Lacy should bounce back and I can't see Foles being THAT bad next week. Ryan still has a great team, just faced a better one this week. Albert takes on Mayra in the early battle of undefeateds, while Ryan looks to get in the win column against fellow 0-1 leaguemate, Matt.
