Week 9 Results: Like Father Like Son

When Dad joined our league 2 years ago, I thought it would be something for him to do. Another thing for us to talk about and for him to participate. I figured he'd be a casual player who would be in it "for fun" and as long as he won a couple games here and there, it wouldn't matter much. Never did I think I'd be looking at the standing and seeing Dad all by himself with a 7-2 record with 4 weeks to go with a legit shot at securing a coveted bye. It shouldn't come as too much of a surprise, I mean, Dad has make the playoffs both seasons he's been in the league. It's pretty cool seeing Dad #1 and me #2 in what I believe is the 1st time in our league history we've occupied both top spots. With the competition intense and so many teams still in the running, who knows how long it will last, but at least for a week, the Puentes are on top of the world. Here are this week's results.

The Bad Robofies (7-2)           126
Not Even Lying (5-4)                78

Insane....not so much that Dad won, with Kenny down his top 2 players and Percy Harvin still out, I believed Dad was the favorite to win this week. But if you were to tell me your QB and both running backs were to combine for 10 points and you would still not only win but put up the 2nd highest score in the week I would think you were nuts. That's EXACTLY what happened though. Despite the ineffectiveness of Alex Smith and Ray Rice and the injury to Darren McFadden (yet another obstacle Dad will have to overcome) Dad put up 126 points thanks to an INSANE out of this world performance by Andre Johnson. Johnson managed to Out-Calvin Megatron and went for an insane 229 receiving yards with 3 TD's (all TD's in the first half) showing great chemistry with rookie Case Keenum. Another surprising showing was Aaron Dobson. Dad is getting amazing production from his young receivers when it's needed. First it was Rueben Randle for a couple of weeks and now it's Dobson. Dobson had two TD's including a death knell 82 yard score in the 4th quarter. He finished with 27.5 points. Jimmy Graham continues to amaze but this week his performance of "only" 116 yards and two scored helped capped off Dad's scoring bonanza. Even spot start (and Dad fave) Rod Streater was good with 98 receiving yards. For Kenny, this was pretty predictable though it was nice to signs of life from Mike James. 150 rushing yards (and surprisingly a Passing TD) against the Seattle D is no joke. That's better than any Doug Martin game this season, so maybe he can slowly keep getting better. Trent Richardson though...what a dreadful bust. Donald Brown is way better than him. Although Brees was great (380+ and 2 scores) both TD's went to Jimmy Graham. That's the bad thing about your opponent having 1 of your QB's weapons. Emmanuel Sanders had a solid game again as well and was actually 3rd on Kenny's team in scoring with 12 points.  Kenny gets his studs back next week against Albert, while Dad will try to lock up a playoff spot by taking on the 2-7 Ryan.

Game MVP
Andre Johnson (The Bad Robofies)
9 receptions, 229 receiving yards, 3 receiving TD's, 44.5 points

Houston Texans' Andre Johnson catches a pass from Case Keenum for a touchdown during the first quarter of an NFL football game against the Indianapolis Colts, Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013, in Houston

Danny's Little Giants (6-3)                   136.5
Bigger Balls (5-4)                                    57

Ouch....this was one of those things can't get worse but they did kinda weeks for Mayra. She started the week out without Knowshon Moreno and Vernon Davis who were both on byes. Right off the bat she lost Darren Sproles in the 1st quarter to a concussion. Dez had a very disappointing game against the shitty Vikings defense with only 60 yards receiving and because my guys just went straight up BONKERS, it didn't even matter that Antonio Brown was great with 71 and a score and then...last night happened. Aaron Rodgers went down with a collarbone injury on the 1st drive of the game and now is facing a multi-week injury. The loss of Sproles was bad enough, but to lose Rodgers in the middle of a playoff push...has the potential to be devastating. We'll see how Mayra handles this situation, but man this couldn't have happened at a worse time. As for me, wow my team was LOCKED IN. Only V-Jax was terrible (2 catches for 11 yards) while everyone else had 10 or more points. The biggest story was the reemergence of at least for one week,  Chris Johnson. All I heard from all the "fantasy experts" was how Shonn Greene was going to turn this into a 50/50 timeshare and how Chris Johnson was done and that Greene would eventually take over the starting job blablabla. Yeah Greene had a good game with a TD, Chris Johnson had a GREAT game. 150 rushing yards and 2 rushing TD's and scored a team high 30.5 points. Yeah..what was that fantasy experts? LeSean McCoy continues to be disappointing but at least scored a TD. Pierre Garcon had a monster receiving game (despite no TD) with 7 catches for 172 yards, Philip Rivers provided a nice bye week fill in with 341 and 2 scores, Jason Witten FINALLY resembled a top 5 TE with 8 catches for 102 and as score and Brandon Marshall put a cherry on top with 107 and a score Monday Night. This team, when in all cylinders is very scary. I like the potential and this was without Matthew Stafford, a shitty V-Jax, and a meh McCoy. There's so much more potential. Is Chris Johnson going to do that again? Probably not, but it's nice to see he's still CAPABLE of that, and in a league where RB depth is scarce, it would be nice to rely on CJ as a RB#2 down the stretch. I have a very tough matchup with Drew next week, while Mayra takes on Leland and what might no longer be a slam dunk.

Game MVP
Chris Johnson (Danny's Little Giants)
150 rushing yards, 2 rushing TD's, 3 receptions, 20 yards, 30.5 points
Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson (28) scores on a 14-yard touchdown run helped by teammate Nate Washington (85) as St. Louis Rams cornerback Trumaine Johnson, bottom, defends during the third quarter of an NFL football game Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013, in St. Louis

Tebow4President (3-6)                     86.5
Shock The Monkey (6-3)                 73.5

This was seriously the most hilarious matchup this season. Why? Because Leland seriously did everything he could to LOSE this matchup and still won by 13! First he played an inactive Thursday night. He then switched out C.J. Spiller (who had his best game of the season) for Brandon Bolden (36 rushing yards) and the icing on the cake, had Riley Cooper who had the game of his LIFE, on his bench (3 TD's and 34.5 points just there on the bench). NONE OF IT MATTERED! Since starting 5-0, Mark's had a brutal stretch and is now 1-3 in his last four (that 1 win he sneaked by against Drew who had a 3-1 advantage and his guys underperformed). What's happened to Mark's team? Well playing without Victor Cruz doesn't help for one, but Matt Ryan losing his weapons, Justin Blackmon getting suspended, Steven Jackson getting old, and just randomness at all other positions are the problems. Gronk and Forte can't do it by themselves (They had 50 of the 73.5 points...think about that..that's absurd) Matt Ryan has 2 straight single digit performances and 7 INT's as well. Brain Hartline, Nate Washington, Ted Ginn Jr. Marvin Jones...they just aren't reliable on a week to week basis and though he'll get Cruz back, he still has to use most of those guys on a week to week basis. Mark's schedule is pretty tough, and I still think he makes the playoffs because a strong start, but man...it's not looking good at all for that all important bye. For Leland, it's his 2nd straight win! Tom Brady resembled the Brady of old with 432 passing yards and 4 passing TD's (luckily only one to Gronk). Danny Woodhead and Greg Olsen were Ok, but it's another low scoring affair as Leland is becoming the new Dad of the league. Leland actually might have a favorable matchup against Mayra next week, while Mark takes on Matt who's on a two game winning streak and is trying to claw his way back into playoff contention.

Game MVP
Tom Brady (Tebow4President)
432 passing yards, 4 passing TD's, 33 points
Pittsburgh Steelers v New England Patriots

Dr. Light's Robots (4-5)           93
Springville-Warrior (3-6)         83

Don't look now but Matt has breathed new life into his team with a 10 point this week. You know who he can thank? Not RGIII who was bla, not Jamaal Charles, who for his standards was disappointing, not even Jordy Nelson who lost his starting QB. Nope..ZAC STACEY. This could be the critical pickup that saves Matt season. Matt's been riding with a disappointing MJD all season, before picking up Stacey and in week 9 when it was needed, Zac Stacy MORE than delivered. 127 rushing yards, 2 rushing TD's and another 6 catches for 51 yards for 32 points. That's a statement line right there. You can't sleep on Matt. A Jamaal Charles/Zac Stacy combo has the potential to be very dangerous. I thought Eugene had a shot after that amazing Gio Bernard performance but it would basically be the highlight of his week. Eugene almost has the same problem that Mark has, that wide receiving depth is severely lacking. Eric Decker was on bye, and that's really Eugene's only reliable receiver. Eddie Royal scored a TD, and Russell Wilson put up 22 points, but it was a whole lot of nothing for the rest of his squad. Matt takes on a struggling Mark team next, while Eugene takes on an equally struggling Mike Posey team.

Game MVP
Zac Stacy (Dr. Light's Robots)
127 rushing yards, 2 rushing TD's, 6 receptions, 51 receiving yards, 32 points

RADIO: Zac Stacy a great fantasy football play

Channel 4 News Team (5-4)            125
Passion ofthe Puente (5-4)                81

No Peyton Manning? No problem as Albert easily dismantles Mike's team. It was a pretty high scoring balance affair for Albert's team with only Scott Chandler and Dwayne Bowe scoring under 10 points (Bowe had 9.5). T.Y. Hilton was the top dog in this game with 3 2nd half TD's and 33.5 points overall. Alfred Morris had 121 and a score, Le'Veon Bell had a nice combined rushing/receiving game and Terrelle Pryor managed to be a decent plug in with 17 points. Mike was 5-1 and has now dropped 3 straight. Arian Foster was a game time decision and a Sunday Night play so it forced Mike to go with Pierre Thomas. Foster ended up playing only two snaps so it was the right call, but Thomas did nothing of note. Tony Gonzalez got his snide with an 81 yards 1 TD performance, and Marshawn had a nice rushing yardage game, but really there wasn't anything else of note that happened. Drew Davis and Jarrett Boykin combined for 2 points showing how unpredictable they are and Tony Romo had a prime matchup against Minnesota and though put up 337 and 2 scores, still felt a tad disappointing. Albert takes on Kenny in what should be a great matchup next week, while Mike will try to get back on track by taking on Eugene next week.

Game MVP
T.Y. Hilton (Channel 4 News Team)
7 receptions, 121 receiving yards, 3 receiving TD's, 33.5 points
CORRECTS FIRST NAME FROM T.J. YATES TO T.Y. HILTON - Indianapolis Colts' Andrew Luck (12) and T.Y. Hilton (13) celebrate after they connected for a touchdown against the Houston Texans during the fourth quarter of an NFL football game Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013, in Houston

I'm A Paul Heyman Guy (3-6)              112.5
Hoosier Daddy (2-7)                              107.5

I don't care what their records our, I am scared of these teams. I still have to play both of them (including Drew next week) and I can easily see myself losing to either team. They have the talent to do it and their records have more to do with tough breaks than terrible play. Thanks to a James Starks TD, Drew comes away with the W and keeps his season on life support. Drew's got such a weird dynamic to his team. His got the two stud RB's (though not Reggie Bush this week), a Solid QB, and then receivers with high potential. They can be awesome (like Keenan Allen this week, 128 yards and a score) or ineffective (Terrence Williams, 33 yards) and then next week be entirely opposite. It's maddening, cause it's really hard to determine if you really have a chance to win. Adrian Peterson humiliated us for 140 and a score, while Danny Amendola proved when he's healthy, he's a damn good receiver (122 and a score). Andrew Luck did his damage in the 2nd half throwing for 271 and 3 TD's while Jordan Cameron has been struggling recently with this week only getting half a point. For Ryan..once again, just bad breaks. Eddie Lacy is definitely legit and at least he has that bright spot for next season. Lacy had 150 and rushing TD and figures to be involved even more with Aaron Rodgers out indefinitely. DeSean Jackson was amazing with a 150 and a score, and Steven Ridley has really bounced back with 115 yards and two more TD's (6 TD's in last 4 games). Cam Newton could've done more, as Ryan needed every point possible to win. He finished with 249, 1 Passing TD, 2 Picks but did at a rushing TD. Though it's basically over (Ryan can finish no better than 6-7) Ryan can still play spoiler and he takes on Dad next week while Drew tries to stay alive one more week against me.

Game MVP
Adrian Peterson (I'M A Paul Heyman Guy)
140 rushing yards, 1 rushing TD, 3 receptions, 37 receiving yards, 24.5 points
