Week 1 Notes: Well to say I couldn't ask for a better start is an understatement. I know I won't get this production every week, but it makes me feel confident that I have a deep and balanced squad that is fully capable of these explosions. And this year points matter even more than ever, with the new 6th seed rule so very pleased with the start of the season. Matt's obvious weakness will be his downfall, his receivers, Gronk, and Brady all played great..those RB's though...for the 2nd straight year Matt has one of the worst groups of RB's in the league. He'll need to do something there, because although Burkhead is good, the system he's in prohibits him from being a consistent play. Drew's guys came firing on all cylinders as well as he puts up the 2nd highest score of the week. A great start for Drew as he's hoping to finally breakthrough this season. For Mike, the finest example of why we changed the rules for the 6th seed getting in by points and not W's. Mike's guys play great and he puts up the 3rd most points in the league this week...only to lose because he happened to play the guy who scored the 2nd most points. In contrast Alex won his matchup by only scoring 85 points. Brutal break, but at least it's not as critical as it was in the past. If Mike's guys keep putting up points, it'll eventually correct itself. Speaking of Alex, geez, so you lose Le'Veon Bell for god knows how long, you lose Delanie Walker and Doug Baldwin to in game injuries (while Baldwin puts up a giant 0 and Walker is out for the season), LeSean McCoy SUCKS and you still WIN. Wow..credit Desean Jackson of all people for that win. On the flip side...what a MAJOR disappointment for Dad. His team was given a gift of a matchup and it just totally crapped the bed. Terrible Terrible performance all around. The scary thing is, he plays Leland next week, and me the week after. He really needed that Week 1 Gimmie win. I'm not going to take away from Albert's win totally, his guys showed up, and Joe Mixon proved he's going to be a stud, but honestly Leland lost because of pure bad luck again on the injury front. Marquise Goodwin got hurt (and had 0 points) and Aaron Rodgers missed a lot of the 1st half with what looked like a gruesome knee injury (he thankfully came back) and yet with Albert's guys playing at a high level he barely squeaks out a 4 point victory. A win is a win of course, but if I'm Leland, I'm not sweating at all. That's also because Kareem Hunt sucked too, and David Johnson was average. He found another gem in James Connor and sorry to say the rest of us, all 11 of us, are IDIOTS (yes that includes me) for letting Connor slip all the way to the 12th round for Leland to snap up. Dumb. My worries were Kenny's team and his lack of depth came to be true in week 1 as his team looked really bad. Those receivers outside of Antonio Brown..ugh. The problem is Kenny is so top heavy that if even one of those guys busts, it's going to be hard for Kenny's team to recover. This week, they all busted outside of Brown. Kenny's got a bounceback (Rotoworld) matchup against Matt this upcoming week, and he has to find a way to survive before Edelman and Ingram come back. For Eugene, I feel like it was an impressive yet overlooked performance. He's going to be a contender for sure this season and his lack of a solid RB2 didn't hurt this week. Those receivers and Melvin Gordon were outstanding. I think my only worry would be Matthew Stafford but he is who he is..just a bad week. And finally, the battle of two teams I'm not too fond of faced off and well..one of them had to win. Man..how bad do you have to be to not only lose to Mark's squad..but get destroyed? It wasn't pretty (Mark only had two guys score over 10 points..but one of them was Tyreek Hill with his nearly 39 points) but thanks to a Fournette injury and overall terrible play from the rest of Ryan's team, the defending champ starts the season 1-0. For Ryan's sake, he better hope Fournette's injury isn't serious. I do think guys like Big Ben, Jimmy Graham, and Zeke will have much better showings next week. I'll give credit where it's due for Tyreek, and Golden Tate was solid (still not 2nd round materials), but man those RB's just won't cut it in my opinion. Still you take what you can get and win any means necessary. Travis Kelce won't be that bad again either and that's good news for Mark who won despite him putting up barely any points.
