Thursday Night Overview: An EXPLOSION Of Points

Image result for jared goff
To say last night's Rams-Vikings game was unlike any other Thursday Night Game in recent memory would be a MAJOR understatement. Never have I seen sooo many players go for over 15 points in one game. Typically a couple of teams have a guy or two playing in Thursday Night Game. This week? A whopping 8 teams had at least one player (with a couple teams having 2) play last night. It was a high scoring affair and there was plenty of points to go around. Unfortunately for me, I got the short end of the stick. Kyle Rudolph started pretty good, 5 catches for 57 yards at halftime..and that was that. He never caught another pass and a in game where the Vikings scored 31 pts and the running game was nonexistent, it's definitely disappointing that I didn't get to really get in on the fun. The only other player that was disappointing was Dalvin Cook. Coming off an injury, Cook was on a snap count and did nothing of note, getting only 2 points. Even though Gurley was great for Drew, that Cook play along with Matt basically countering Gurley with Thielen (23.5 points for Theilen, 23.6 for Gurley) has given Matt a bigger edge this week than he had before the games started. I feel bad for Alex, he got an amazing Brandin Cooks game (22.10 Points) but Leland had Robert Woods who had a hell of a game himself (18.6 Points) and it just doesn't seem like there's a way Alex's team will be able to hang with Leland's with such a wide talent disparity. Mike an Albert should be a super high scoring affair and Mike's team continues to put up major points. Cooper Kupp was the biggest beneficiary of Jared Goff's amazing performance.  10 catches for 162 yards and 2 scores for an incredible 32.7 point. Kupp has NOT been a fluke this season and Mike has very quietly put together a well balanced team that he managed to improve by trading for Jarvis Landry. Albert had the Cousins-Diggs combo and they were back on track after last week's embarrassment. Cousins costly fumble cost Albert two points and Diggs didn't find the endzone but they still combined for nearly 53 points. Albert is still the underdog, but this has the potential to definitely be the highest scoring matchup of the week. And last but not least...my Dad. With Cam Newton facing a bye week, Dad was "forced" to plug in Jared Goff as his QB. I thought Goff would turn up a solid if not spectacular game..but I never expected a potential fantasy week winning performance. Goff was perfect (Literally, he had a perfect passer rating) with 465 Passing Yards and 5 TD's. Just insane and it has to be frustrating for Kenny who has now faced both Mahomes and Goff in their career best games. That one play literally turned the tide for Dad and though Kenny's got a great team, its going to be real tough to climb out of the hole that he's in. All in All, a very exciting, entertaining game and hopefully we  can get a few more of these types of games as the season goes on.

Week 4 Matchups and Predictions

I'm telling you...once the season gets started it just starts flying by. We're already into week 4 of the season and so far the league has been pretty balanced with all but one team having a win. Because of that, the only one to me in "must win" mode is Leland as it would be very difficult to climb out of a 0-4 start. Here's this weeks matchups

Rigmas Forever (2-1) vs
Hoosier Daddy (2-1)

Yahoo Says: I win
I Say: I win. I hate when Yahoo gives me such absurd projections. I haven't hit over 115 much less 122 since Week one. Nevertheless besides such ridiculousness I still believe I should be able to beat Ryan this week.

I Am Queens Blvd (2-1) vs
Light's Broken Bots (1-2)

Yahoo Says: Matt wins
I Say: Matt wins. This is interesting. My first inclination was to say Drew would win, but looking at it a little deeper I actually have to give the edge to Matt. Dalvin Cook still might not even play or be limited and Drew's having to rely on wild card plays such as Kenny Stills, Dallas Goedert and Aaron Jones. I actually think Matt has the more stable roster for this week.

Scott's Tots (1-2) vs
Underdawg (1-2)

Yahoo Says: Kenny wins
I Say: Kenny wins Dad losing Cam hurts him way more than Kenny losing McCaffrey. Dad having to rely on disappointments like Corey Davis and Amari Cooper plus not really having a solid RB2 has me thinking Kenny takes this one to get to .500 before he gets back both Julian Edelman and Mark Ingram from suspension.

Channel 4 News Team (2-1) vs
Trump 2020 (1-2)

Yahoo Says: Mike Wins
I say: Mike wins. Albert's having to start two tight ends because of lack of bench depth, plus the super inconsistent Isaiah Crowell. Posey's been putting big points week after week and I see him doing it again.

SCLSU MudDogs (1-2) vs
No Soup For You (0-3)

Yahoo Says: Leland Wins
I Say: Leland wins. Leland is a whopping 40 point favorite and there really is no excuse for his team to not easily win this matchup. Alex's team is just too beat up at the moment to pose a serious threat.

Shock The Monkey (3-0) vs
Rocket Man (2-1)

Yahoo Says: Eugene wins
I Say: Eugene wins. I mean...it has to end soon right? Here's a crazy fun fact. Mark is actually riding an 11 GAME WINNING STREAK dating back to last season. That's right..Mark last loss? Week 7 of last year..TO ME. Amazing streak that I just have to believe has to end this week. Eugene's team is really tough and I just can't see Mark beating him..though he's proved me wrong all season.

Week 3 Recap: Explaining The Unexplainable

Image result for unsolved mysteries
At the beginning of the season if you were to look at Mark and Leland's rosters and tell me these two teams would be the last teams to remain winless and undefeated I would've probably 80-100% agreed with you and I would've been right.....except I would've also been wrong. You see, I had Leland pegged once again as this unstoppable force, gifted with great keepers and great draft picks, while Mark's team had more than a few question mark head scratching moves that weren't to my liking. However after 3 weeks it's MARK'S TEAM that's undefeated and LELAND is the only team in our league without a win. Fantasy Football at it's finest. It's the ultimate game where "on paper" means jackshit because it's all a game of chance and luck. I can however at least come up with reasonable explanations as to how the unbelievable really is actually...believable. Let's start with Leland's team. It's pretty simple. Underachievement. Yup..that's it. No...if this would've happened...or if he had played this guy..nope it's just underachievement as a whole team. Leland is 9th in the league in scoring after 3 games, so it's not like his guys are playing up to their standards and though he's given up the 3rd most points in the league..look at the teams around him, Matt and Mike have both given up 30-40 points more and still have wins under their belts. Albert and Drew...have only given up about 6 points less than Leland and both are 2-1, so Points Against can't really be used a pro argument for Leland. It's just what it is..simple underachievement. Aaron Rodgers hasn't been a monster QB thanks to a knee injury, David Johnson's been a bust for the most part and outside of Keenan Allen, Leland's got too many interchangeable receivers that it's hard to pick the right ones who can blow up (kinda a problem he had last year as well). So yeah..that was pretty easy to explain. So Mark...MARK...1st place..undefeated..HOW?! He totally overdrafted Golden Tate (over guys like Mike Evans and JuJu Smith Schuster) he's already busted on a keeper in Derrick Henry (he sucks), Alshon Jeffrey's been hurt all year and he just lost Jimmy G to an ACL injury. How in the hell has that team not only NOT lost but NOT gotten blown out in every game? Well..and I'm not trying to be a prick, but let's be real, it's certainly not because his team has actually played well as a whole. Mark's got the 3rd worst points in the league, even Leland, 0-3, has more points (by less than a point but still, for the disparity in records, the points disparity should be more than less than a point and it should be Mark with more points).  Let's be generous and even say "but Mark only 2 points away from two other guys"..ok fair enough, 2 points basically separate him and Dad but still, that puts at 5th worst scoring team at BEST. Out of 12 teams. No matter how you slice it, it's not good. Mark's team is playing to about the level I expected it to play at. Mark's success has come from the fact that so far, teams are playing below their expectations. So it's not that Mark's team has gone off or anything, it's that his opponents teams have so far "wet the bed" when playing against him. The easier way to measure that? Points Against. Who leads that? Mark...by almost 20 points from the next guy closest. So is all of this sustainable. Is Mark going to keep trucking and Leland failing? When it comes to this crazy game, who knows anything really. It'll definitely be interesting to see how this finishes out..but at the very least..for now...it's not a mystery that can't be solved. Onto the results of Week 3

Week 3 Notes: For whatever reason, this win for me felt like the most bizarre, weirdest win I've had in a  long while. I don't like checking fantasy scores during the day, and it just seemed like my team was FLAT, and I felt like Dad was crushing it. Like before the 1st halves ended, Dad already had 3 Cam TD's, a Saquon TD and it seemed like Jordan Reed was doing good as well, while I had Blake Bortles SUCKING big time and solid yardage from Kamara and Michael Thomas (but no Td's) but like nothing else outside of a Emmanuel Sanders rushing TD. I just felt like that the whole matchup yet I still ended up winning (thought it got hairy last night with Chris Godwin). I'll take it, but man..what an uninspiring weird win ha. Fun fact..I drafted Russell Wilson in the 5th round in the draft..I still haven't used him. For Dad, the one thing I was worried about (outside of injury which has also killed Dad, with Freeman and Greg Olsen) was how Corey Davis and Amari Cooper would perform. They just haven't been good and with Dad shorthanded he needs them to be. It can't be just Cam, Saquon and Hopkins doing everything. Next week, he won't have Cam, who's on bye and takes on Kenny's team who has life now. Kinda scary for him if you ask me. We'll segue into that matchup as Kenny got EXACTLY what he needed as Albert went from putting up 140+ against me to putting up barely half that this week. Kenny had this in check since Thursday and never looked back and it was DEFINITELY a confidence booster after starting 0-2. His goal was to be 2-2 and it's looking like that's a pretty good possibility when he faces Dad next week ( though just putting this out there...the last two teams to have blowout of the week..went on to be blowout of the week themselves..as the VICTIM). It was just an absolute MISS all around from Albert's team as the Bills just beat the crap out of the Vikings. As the Vikings go down, so does Albert as he has that Cousins/Diggs combo. Last week they combined for like 71 points..this week...not even 15. Chris Thompson was also uninvolved in his matchup so just a terrible overall for Albert. Everyone has those though and I'm sure he'll bounce back (ROTOWORLD) next week when he faces Mike. Speaking of Mike....the points have been there..he's just had a bad schedule. He FINALLY gets win #1 thanks to the Monday Night Heroics of FITZMAGIC and Mike Evans. This team is legit. Mike's 2nd in the league in scoring and it should be a close matchup when he faces Albert this week. Very impressive win for Drew as he beat Eugene's Red Hot Team and he did it without the services of Dalvin Cook. And it wasn't one of those Eugene's team was terrible, he did put up over 100 too, but Drew Brees and his 45 points led the way along with of course Todd Gurley. Eugene losing A.J. Green to injury didn't help matters, and hopefully for his sake it's not a bad injury. It just shows how deep this league is. Most of the teams in this league can beat each other on any given week. Drew gets Matt next week, while Eugene gets a chance to end Mark's undefeated streak. Speaking of Mark, I already went over his team's success at the beginning and honestly there's just not a lot to say here. Mark's the only winning team that didn't put up 100 pts (he barely put up 90) and outside of Jimmy G, Kelce and Golladay..no one else really did anything. He just happened to play Alex. who's team is in just a mess. Injuries have ravaged Alex's team along with Le'Veon Bell's holdout and who knows how long it'll be before this team becomes competitive. It's going to be a long season for Alex unfortunately and it won't get any easier as he takes on Leland who's chomping at the bit for win #1. Speaking of....so Ryan did the one thing that pisses me off more than anything..he played an inactive. Leonard Fournette was ruled out early Sunday Morning and there was plenty of time for Ryan (who even has FOURNETTE'S HANDCUFF..T.J. YELDON) to make the switch. But he didn't and the kicker (which pisses me off more) it didn't matter...he still won with ease. Big Ben has been amazing but surprisingly it was Adrian Peterson and Sterling Shepard that led the way too. For Leland...man..you couldn't ask for a WORSE start. Now losing to teams who leave inactives in. I don't what to say..I do know probably the biggest problem he has is picking his WR's...the WR'S he has are just two similar and all capable of boom or bust games. He had Robert Woods and Mike Williams on his bench this week (50 points right there). It's going to be a guessing game every week and he needs to hope to hit and play the right ones. He needs this matchup with Alex BADLY as that should be an easy win but who knows the way this season has gone. Ryan will play me, and since I badmouthed his decision to play an inactive Fournette, I can see Karma biting me in the ass and me losing to him.

Thursday Night Overview: The Baker Era Has Begun

Image result for baker mayfield
Sorry guys, been under the weather all week which is why there was no matchups and predictions post, but I did want to talk about last night's game for a bit. Typically a Jets-Browns regular season game seems like pure torture..and for about a quarter and a half..it was. Tyrod Taylor was AWFUL and the game was just a bore..until finally a concussion took Taylor out of the game and Baker Mayfield came in. He quickly energized the team and played way better than Tyrod was eventually leading his team to their first win in over a season. Now of course if Hue Jackson is smart (sometimes debatable) this means that Baker takes over as the starting QB which upgrades all Cleveland Skill Players. I'm excited about that myself since I'm holding Antonio Callaway. Baker immediately paid dividends as Jarvis Landry had a great game with 8  catches for over 100 yards (and a nifty 2 pt conversion pass on a trick play). Landry seemed QB proof, but an upgrade at QB can only help Eugene's loaded team. Facing a must win situation, Kenny was beyond frustrated initially as Albert spot started ISAIAH CROWELL of all people and he ridiculously scored not 1 but 2 TD's. Luckily, Carlos Hyde had a monster game with 2 TD's of his own and along with a Decent Enunwa game, Kenny's back in the driver's seat in his matchup. The only other play of the night was Alex playing Bilal Powell. Powell didn't do much unfortunately and Alex's injury riddled team is going to have a hard team competing with Mark this week.

Week 2 Recap: Mahomes is the Man

Image result for patrick mahomes
Last year it was Deshaun Watson, this year, Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes had the highest upside pretty much out of all the QB's taken after top 8 or so and boy has he delivered it in spades. Matt didn't use him week 1, but decided to take the gamble of using him instead of Brady in Week 2 and boy did that work out perfectly.  He basically single handedly won Matt's matchup against Kenny thanks to his 6 TD performance. Once again Matt has a QB controversy, though at least this time he didn't spend high draft capital on either Brady (7th round Keeper) or Mahomes (9th round). Gives Matt some solid trade bait with Brady as well. There was other action in Week 2 so let's get to the recap!

Week 2 Notes: Well...there's proof that Thursday's starts don't matter. Despite the slow start, Albert ended up kicking my ass and getting blowout of the week on top of that. Basically it was the Kirk Cousins-Stefon Diggs show and they killed me dead. The dagger was the 75 yard connection and I was never able to recover after that. Funny how you go from thinking you have a championship caliber team to having major questions on just how good your team is after one week. For Albert, what a great 2-0 start, taking out 2 tough opponents. He'll have to do it without Joe Mixon, but he'll get him back shortly. He'll have another test in Kenny next week. As with every year, there's always a team or two that I hate on paper and that shouldn't be that good, yet keeps winning and this year it's Mark, the defending champion. He BARELY survived Drew, as they had the closest matchup of the week, but hey he survived and that's all that matters. He gets a cush matchup next week against Alex's banged up team so there's a good shot he ends up 3-0. Drew, much like everyone this week, didn't really lose because he sucked, he just got outscored. It's definitely a tough loss and it doesn't get any easier with Eugene next up, but Drew's team can score and hang with anyone in the league. Dad should get some of a confidence back as that was a very impressive win for him against Leland this week. His team showed it's potential when it all comes together and it's even more impressive that he did it without Devonta Freeman. He'll take me on next week, and the way my team is playing, combined with his team surging, should be a close one. For Leland...here we go again. For whatever ever reason Leland's guys just don't all click. This time, it's looking like David Johnson's just not going to be the elite back he was drafted or kept as and that's thanks to a horrible offense in general in Arizona. Not only did Leland lose and lose easily, but he put up the least amount of points in the week. He was the only team to not score 100 pts (Albeit by less than a point). Definitely a head scratcher because he has the talent. Maybe a matchup with Ryan is what he needs to get his groove back. For Kenny..man he was just the unlucky one who had the "privilege" to play against Patrick Mahomes. His team was solid, but he literally got beat by 3 guys (Mahomes, Juju, and Thielen) The rest of Matt's team was awful, and that has to be frustrating when you have the more balanced team and just lost because a couple guys went batshit bonkers. Kenny's also in dangerous territory as he was hoping for a 2-2 start, and has now dropped both his first two games. It doesn't get any easier against Albert in Week 3. For Matt, he has to be pleased with the Mahomes unearthing, though I still think he needs to make some moves to round out his team. Mahomes reminds me of the time Matt picked up Odell Beckham off waivers..anyone remember how Matt finished the year that happened? Matt will take on Mike next week and don't let Mike fool you, his team is better than his record..in fact let's segue to that matchup as Mike is seriously just having the worst luck in opponents early in the season. Last week, he faced the 2nd highest scoring team in the league, this week, he puts up another respectable outing (that would've beaten 7 other teams) and faces the offensive force that is Eugene. Eugene put up a whopping 141 points and he's definitely looking like the top team to beat so early in the season. Even with Julio not doing much, he has more than offensive weapons to pick up the slack. He'll take on Drew which should be another high scoring affair. For Mike, if the playoffs started today..he'd be the 6th side despite the 0-2 record because of his points. Sucks to lose when your guys play great, but at least he knows his team seems to be pretty solid and hopefully the luck corrects itself. All in all as a whole a pretty high scoring week for all. Basically every team scored 100 points which just shows how deep the competition is going to be this year. After two weeks, we're down to 3 undefeated teams left and 3 winless teams left, one streak is guaranteed to end in the Albert/Kenny matchup. We'll see where we stand after week 3!

Thursday Night Overview: Done In By Thursday

 Image result for a.j. green
One of the shittiest things about Thursday Night games is the possibility of having your matchup decided before Sunday games even start. To have your week ruined by either playing against someone who has someone go off or have your own guys underperforming on a Thursday night is a total buzz killer. But it does happen, and last night, there's a possibility it happened to Mike Posey as A.J. Green (who Eugene has) went absolutely BONKERS in the 1st half of last night's game with 3 TD's. He was pretty much held in check the rest of the way, but Mike was already an underdog as it was, and this pretty much sealed his fate this week. Now it's never over till it's over, but it's damn near close in this situation. Mike had Alex Collins go but he didn't really do enough the lessen the bleeding (not even 10 points). Eugene looks like he's on his way to a 2-0 start and his team is looking pretty dangerous. We'll see if he can finish it off Sunday. The only other action in the game was Albert playing two guys, Joe Mixon and Michael Crabtree, against me. Thankfully for my sake, I survived. Mixon actually looked great but was in and out of the game with a knee injury. Unfortunately that meant he didn't even reach double digits, and neither did Crabtree. Now Albert's team is still deep enough to survive this week, so I'm not ready to celebrate just yet, but I'll definitely take the mediocre start. Albert got even worse news today with the news that Joe Mixon is going to need to have minor surgery and is expected to miss two weeks at minimum. Crucial blow for Albert.

Week 2 Matchups And Predictions

And just like that it's time for Week 2. Here are this week's matchups and predictions

Rigmas Forever (1-0) vs
Channel 4 News Team (1-0)

Yahoo Says: I win
I Say: I win. It's not going to be easy and Albert is coming off a huge victory against Leland, but I have confidence my team can pull off the victory, though I don't see it as the Blowout Yahoo sees it as.

I Am Queens Blvd. (1-0) vs
Shock the Monkey (1-0)

Yahoo Says: Drew Wins
I Say: Drew wins. Let's see if Mark's win wasn't a fluke. I see this being a blowout, just because Drew has the better team to me by far. It'll be impressive if Mark's squad can take Drew's down. I just don't see it happening.

Underdawg (0-1) vs
No Soup For You (0-1)

Yahoo Says: Leland Wins
I Say: Leland wins. Remember when I said there wouldn't be many matchups Dad would be actually considered an underdog in? Well an 0-1 start later and here we are...Dad's an underdog. There's a possibility both teams could be missing key players (Devonta Freeman for Dad, Aaron Rodgers for Leland). I don't think it matters honestly. I also don't think it'll be as close as Yahoo thinks. I think Leland rights the ship and wins easily and puts Dad's season in serious jeopardy so early in the season.

Scott's Tots (0-1) vs
Light's Broken Bots (0-1)

Yahoo Says: Kenny wins
I Say: Kenny wins. It seems like this week is redemption week as a lot of the teams that lost last week look to right the ship and get back at .500. Kenny should be one of those teams. Matt's already got RB problems (which just got even worse with Rex Burkhead in Concussion Protocol) and on top of the Patriots play the Jags, so not an ideal matchup. It looks like Matt will roll with Mahomes at QB which is definitely a shrewd move that could pay off big time. Problem is, it just might not be enough. I think has the possibility of being close, but I'm giving the edge to Kenny this week.

SCLSU MudDogs (1-0) vs
Hoosier Daddy (0-1)

Yahoo Says: Ryan wins
I say: Ryan wins. Another team looking to rebound from a disappointing loss. With or without Fournette (though it is looking more like with) Ryan should be able to handle Alex's injury ravaged team (which Le'Veon Bell is also holding hostage). Who knows though, Alex found a way to get a  victory last week..maybe lightning strikes twice again?

Rocket Man (1-0) vs
Trump 2020 (0-1)

Yahoo Says: Eugene wins
I Say: Eugene wins. Tough break for Mike, who goes from a shootout with Drew, to another possible shootout with another team that can put up some major points. Edge to the better roster here.

Week 1 Notes: Well to say I couldn't ask for a better start is an understatement. I know I won't get this production every week, but it makes me feel confident that I have a deep and balanced squad that is fully capable of these explosions. And this year points matter  even more than ever, with the new 6th seed rule so very pleased with the start of the season. Matt's obvious weakness will be his downfall, his receivers, Gronk, and Brady all played great..those RB's though...for the 2nd straight year Matt has one of the worst groups of RB's in the league. He'll need to do something there, because although Burkhead is good, the system he's in prohibits him from being a consistent play. Drew's guys came firing on all cylinders as well as he puts up the 2nd highest score of the week. A great start for Drew as he's hoping to finally breakthrough this season. For Mike, the finest example of why we changed the rules for the 6th seed getting in by points and not W's. Mike's guys play great and he puts up the 3rd most points in the league this week...only to lose because he happened to play the guy who scored the 2nd most points. In contrast Alex won his matchup by only scoring 85 points. Brutal break, but at least it's not as critical as it was in the past. If Mike's guys keep putting up points, it'll eventually correct itself. Speaking of Alex, geez, so you lose Le'Veon Bell for god knows how long, you lose Delanie Walker and Doug Baldwin to in game injuries (while Baldwin puts up a giant 0 and Walker is out for the season), LeSean McCoy SUCKS and you still WIN. Wow..credit Desean Jackson of all people for that win. On the flip side...what a MAJOR disappointment for Dad. His team was given a gift of a matchup and it just totally crapped the bed. Terrible Terrible performance all around. The scary thing is, he plays Leland next week, and me the week after. He really needed that Week 1 Gimmie win. I'm not going to take away from Albert's win totally, his guys showed up, and Joe Mixon proved he's going to be a stud, but honestly Leland lost because of pure bad luck again on the injury front. Marquise Goodwin got hurt (and had 0 points) and Aaron Rodgers missed a lot of the 1st half with what looked like a gruesome knee injury (he thankfully came back) and yet with Albert's guys playing at a high level he barely squeaks out a 4 point victory. A win is a win of course, but if I'm Leland, I'm not sweating at all. That's also because Kareem Hunt sucked too, and David Johnson was average. He found another gem in James Connor and sorry to say the rest of us, all 11 of us, are IDIOTS (yes that includes me) for letting Connor slip all the way to the 12th round for Leland to snap up. Dumb. My worries were Kenny's team and his lack of depth came to be true in week 1 as his team looked really bad. Those receivers outside of Antonio Brown..ugh. The problem is Kenny is so top heavy that if even one of those guys busts, it's going to be hard for Kenny's team to recover. This week, they all busted outside of Brown. Kenny's got a bounceback (Rotoworld) matchup against Matt this upcoming week, and he has to find a way to survive before Edelman and Ingram come back. For Eugene, I feel like it was an impressive yet overlooked performance. He's going to be a contender for sure this season and his lack of a solid RB2 didn't hurt this week. Those receivers and Melvin Gordon were outstanding. I think my only worry would be Matthew Stafford but he is who he is..just a bad week. And finally, the battle of two teams I'm not too fond of faced off and well..one of them had to win. Man..how bad do you have to be to not only lose to Mark's squad..but get destroyed?  It wasn't pretty (Mark only had two guys score over 10 points..but one of them was Tyreek Hill with his nearly 39 points) but thanks to a Fournette injury and overall terrible play from the rest of Ryan's team, the defending champ starts the season 1-0. For Ryan's sake, he better hope Fournette's injury isn't serious. I do think guys like Big Ben, Jimmy Graham, and Zeke will have much better showings next week. I'll give credit where it's due for Tyreek, and Golden Tate was solid (still not 2nd round materials), but man those RB's just won't cut it in my opinion. Still you take what you can get and win any means necessary. Travis Kelce won't be that bad again either and that's good news for Mark who won despite him putting up barely any points.

Thursday Night Overview: A Tale Of Two Halves

Image result for jay ajayi
Last night was the greatest example of Fantasy Football that could have ever happened. The pure unpredictability of the game. The lowest of lows and highest of highs. Enter Jay Ajayi. So in the first half, Ajayi was nonexistent..he played only 9 snaps and it looked like Darren Sproles and Corey Clement for whatever reason were going to dominate the workload. Even WENDALL SMALLWOOD got into the action. It was ridiculous. Was he still hurt? Was he being punished? All of these thoughts were going through my head on the VERY FIRST GAME of the season. You spend all offseason preparing, researching and then the games  actually start and NONE OF IT MATERS. I started to question myself..should I have taken Lamar Miller or Royce Freeman? Did I make mistake starting Ajayi at the flex over Emmanuel Sanders? Am I really going to go from to a 20 pt favorite to a 6 pt favorite? It was as bad as bad can be..a little over 1 point in a half's worth of work. Then came the 2nd half and FINALLY Ajayi got some work and made the best of it. 60 yards, 2 TD's and a 2 point conversion later, all was well and Ajayi had exploded for 20 points. And that's what makes fantasy football..fantasy football. You just never know about anything. So I got lucky, but unfortunately for most of the teams who had guys yesterday, they weren't as lucky. Except for Eugene that is. Julio Jones was a BEAST with 10 catches for 169 yards. He even got screwed over by having a 52 yard catch called incomplete. Even without that and with no TD, he got Eugene off to a great start, which sucks for Kenny, because not only is he playing against him, Kenny had Zach Ertz who was pretty mediocre and had a couple of bad drops as well. Ertz finished with a little over 7 points and Carson Wentz can't come back fast enough for Kenny's sake. The Falcons, outside of Julio Jones, were also big time disappointments. Dad is lucky he's playing Alex's Le'Veon Bellless team because Devonta Freeman did nothing and actually got hurt during the game and wasn't in much in the 4th. Dad better hope that it was an outlier game for him, because Dad's team has high expectations this season. I still expect him to win against Alex, but it wasn't the start he was hoping for. Mark decided to go with Matt Ryan over Jimmy G (I would've too) but wow did he look terrible. Ryan was off all night on his throws and didn't throw for a TD pass and threw a pick. Not a great start at all for the defending champ as he was already an underdog to begin with. As with everything..just because teams have a slow start of good start it means nothing at the end of the day. There's still plenty of football to be played, and we'll see what happens Sunday for the rest of Week 1.

Week 1 Matchups and Predictions

Here are my picks for Week 1. Kinda hard to not go chalk Week 1 with nothing really to go on.

Rigmas Forever (Me) vs
Light's Broken Bots (Matt)

Yahoo Says: I win
I say: I win. I really hate being such a huge favorite as it tends to be a big disappointment and puts huge pressure on my guys to live up to the scoring. Matt's Patriots trio scares me, and there's a couple of matchups for my guys I'm not fond of, but I'll give myself the week one edge as on paper I do have the more talented team.

I Am Queens Blvd (Drew) vs
Trump 2020 (Mike)

Yahoo Says: Drew Wins
I Say: Drew wins. This is definitely closer than I thought, I'll give Drew the slight edge here because one Mike's main guys (Mike Evans) won't have his QB for the first few weeks of the season. This could be a possible upset though, wouldn't surprise me.

Underdawg (Dad) vs
SCLSU MudDogs (Alex)

Yahoo Says: Dad Wins
I Say: Dad wins. This couldn't have a better start for Dad and a worse start for Alex. Dad is far from the underdog here and he should easily dispatch of Alex who would be even in a worse spot if indeed Le'Veon Bell is ruled officially out. Just can't see how Alex can withstand Dad's firepower here.

No Soup For You (Leland)  vs
Channel 4 News Team (Albert)

Yahoo Says: Leland wins
I say: Leland wins

Just going overall talent here as Leland should be able to start this season off with a W. He's got the better team than Albert. It hurts that Albert's #1 player Odell Beckham has a tough matchup against Jalen Ramsey and Jacksonville.

Scott's Tots (Kenny) vs
Rocket Man (Eugene)

Yahoo Says: Kenny wins
I Say: Eugene wins

Kenny is the smallest of small favorites here, it's truly a toss up. Because of Kenny's various unknowns (how effective Watkins, Jordan Wilkins, and Jordy Nelson will be) I'm going to go with the safer pick in Eugene. It won't be a slam dunk at all, but Eugene has a lineup I'd be more confident in as a whole.

Hoosier Daddy (Ryan) vs
Shock The Monkey (Mark)

Yahoo Says: Ryan wins
I Say: Ryan wins. I was down on both these teams, but someone has to win. I'm going with Ryan with the slightly better roster.

Quick Hits: Analyzing Each Team's Draft

Like I said, I'm going to do my best to keep up with the blog but it will be a little bit more streamlined due to time constraints and overall just tiredness lol. No real draft grades here, but I'm just going to give my thoughts on each team's draft. Overall, I'd say I feel like it's going to be a real competitive season. I think we're going to have a lot of legit contenders and it should make up for an interesting season and playoff race. So here we go..just going to start from Dad's team who picked #1 down to Eugene's team.

Dad (Underdawg)- The irony of Dad's new team name..I don't think it's very accurate this season as I don't think he's going to be the Underdog in many matchups (Yahoo predicts a 11-2 record). I said before the draft I thought this was Dad's best chance at a championship and I still believe it. Dad took Saquon Barkley #1 and that go along with his keepers in Devonta Freeman and DeAndre Hopkins are a hell of a trio. You add an elite scoring QB like Cam Newton and this team has the potential to put up MAJOR points. The key is going to be Amari Cooper and Corey Davis. If Cooper bounces back from a abysmal season and plays like the Cooper of two years ago and Corey Davis lives up the hype he's had in the preseason, this team will be damn near unstoppable. Another underrated pick was Jamaal Williams. He's going to be the starter for the Packers to start the season and if he can impress and hold the job, that's a great guy to have as a flex play. Only weakness I really see is bench depth and Dad unnecessarily taking two backup QB's (both not that great) but even that, Dad learned his lesson and didn't take a backup until round 10. I'll give Dad his grade only because I know I've been rough on him in the past. So A+ for you Dad and good luck this season!

Albert (Channel 4 News Team)-  Albert said he was going to take whoever was left between Barkley and Beckham so his "consolation prize" was Beckham. Beckham was really the only legit Round 1 graded player outside of Barkley so it's definitely a great guy to pair up with his Stefon Diggs keep. Keep in mind, his other keeper was pretty mediocre (Chris Thompson) so he had to really knock it out of the park with his draft. This crop of running backs is so hard to predict, it's basically just taking a lotto ticket and hoping it works out. Albert's success will be determined on just how good Joe Mixon and Kenyan Drake are. If they work out, then Albert, if not, Albert will sink. I thought he overdrafted Cousins in the 4th but he did back him up with Carson Wentz later. Still there was some prime talent in the 4th that he could've used to kind of provide depth should Mixon and or Drake Falter. Receivers are bland outside of Diggs/Beckham and Njoku/Howard are wild cards to trust as every week tight ends. Overall, should be at the very least a competitive team, with some good championship upside should Mixon/Drake work out.

Leland (No Soup For You)- Every year we wait for Leland's domination and every year something happens to halt it from happening. Again, this year Leland should be considered one of the favorites to win it all. He already had Hunt and David Johnson in tow, then he adds Keenan Allen and Aaron Rodgers making it a very scary foursome. A little bit of on the rest of the receivers though, Goodwin was a stud with Jimmy G late last year, we'll see if he can do that all year, and Robert Woods was a beast when healthy last year (Just ask Dad) but I still don't know if I could trust him on a team where Todd Gurley should be the main offensive weapon, while Woods will also be sharing targets with Brandin Cooks and Cooper Kupp. Nelson Algholor might be solid while Jeffrey is out, but I'm not sure how long term that is. Leland also has a couple of nice young stashes in Mike Williams and D.J. Moore, but not sure if they will be ready to contribute right away or at all. Tight End is a question mark too, as Trey Burton was a favorite in the preseason, but doesn't have much a pedigree and it IS the  Bears offense. Overall though the strength of his top 4 guys allows Leland to take these kind of gambles and gambles that pay off are what win fantasy titles. Leland should know, he's a two time champ. He's definitely got a championship team and I'd probably say he's up there with Dad as overall favorite to win it all.

Matt (Light's Broken Bots)- Expect the unexpected when it comes to Matt..despite only keeping a QB, Matt zigged instead of zagging and took Gronk with the 4th pick. HUGE risk. Nobody ever questions Gronk's dominance of the TE Position..they just question how much his body can hold up. Matt's been burned by Gronk before so here's hoping for his sake he doesn't get burned again. With that said, I'm a big fan of Matt's receivers. Theilen, Juju, and Josh Gordon have the potential to be the best trio in the league and I'm not exaggerating. Josh Gordon is the biggest wildcard there is. Matt's had shares of Gordon the last 3 or 4 seasons, and he slipped to a solid spot where he took the risk again. Love the risk, and it could pay off in spades and hide Matt's deficiencies at the RB position. I like Burkhead but A)not sure as RB1 and B)that's 3 Patriots Matt's relying on this season. It's not ideal to rely on two from the same team much less 3, but it IS the Patriots, so it's not like it can't work. Matt's other rb's are Alfred Morris and Kerryon Johnson. In a league where patience is hard to have, Kerryon Johnson might end up being solid, but it also might take him a few games to solidify his role. Unfortunately because of Matt's RB depth, he's thrust basically into a flex position off the bat. Alf has the 49ers starting job for now after Jerrick McKinnon blew his ACL out. He's kinda just a guy, not a ton of upside, but should be OK. Matt's bench is also full of average older vets outside of Patrick Mahomes as his backup QB. Another team where injuries/potential will play a big part in where the season goes for Matt. Losing Gronk would be killer, so would something like Josh Gordon getting suspended or leaving the team. This team has a chance to be a playoff team if everything goes right, but also has low floor of being a cellar dweller.

Mike (Trump 2020)- Trolly team name aside, I'm actually impressed with Mike's team considering he had the least to work with as far as keepers go. Getting Devante Adams to slip to him was nice and so was redrafting Mike Evans at a cheaper round 2 price. There was a moment in the preseason where Evans could've been Mike's keeper in the 1st round. Thankfully he didn't go that route and got him anyways. A rare time where redrafting a potential keeper actually worked out. This team will go where Evans/Alex Collins/Lamar Miller take it. Evans won't have Jameis the first few games and he was MASSIVELY disappointing last year, but like Amari Cooper, we've seen how DOMINATE he can be and he's a league changer at his absolute best. The RB's are like most of our RB's..crapshoots..total dart throws. Lamar Miller isn't flashy at all, but he's the only running back in town, and with a fully healthy Deshaun Watson, he played pretty well. Alex Collins is another guy that seems to be the main back in Baltimore. They both carry risk, but it's just something you gotta go with. Not a big fan of Marshawn Lynch, but Mike did pick up Peyton Barber who's the #1 back in Tampa Bay as an insurance policy. The lack of real backup  WR's is a little concerning, but he's got plenty of nice RB depth to possibly trade if need be. I definitely think this is a playoff caliber team. I won't go as far as saying championship caliber, but hey all you got to do is make the playoffs and who knows what happens. This team definitely has playoff aspirations.

Ryan (Hoosier Daddy)- So Ryan forfeited his first two picks but for good reason..he got to keep Zeke and Leonard Fournette but he hit a thud with his next two picks in my opinion. 30 is wayyy to early for Allen Robinson in my opinion. There was plenty of better talent (Chris Hogan, Fitzgerald, Marvin Jones, Ertz, Ajayi, just a few names still there). I'm also not a big fan of Demaryius Thomas as I think Emmanuel Sanders is much better suited to Case Keenum's style of play. Ryan did rebound with the Graham/Carson combo in the next two rounds. I believe Carson's going to pretty much keep that starting role this season and that's a nice guy to have as a flex play. The rest though..ugh..not a fan really. Shepard is the defacto #2 receiving option, but Evan Engram is going to get his along with Barkley. Big Ben is Big Ben and nobody on his bench looks like a dependable possible bye week fill in outside of possibly Adrian Peterson. All in All considering who he started with, a little disappointing (I wholeheartedly disagree with Yahoo's A- grade). Zeke and Fournette though should keep Ryan in the Playoff Hunt all season

Drew (I Am Queens Blvd)- Drew also had no #1 or #2 pick keeping Gurley and Dalvin Cook. This could FINALLY be the season Drew breaks out of his 1st round playoff funk as he definitely has the talent on his team to do it. I think Chris Hogan is going to be really good, especially with Edelman out and no really other decent wide receiver on the roster. I love Dion Lewis in Tennessee too, and ask Mark, he helped him win a title last year. Can't go wrong with Drew Brees and then Drew used 3 straight picks on upside WR' thought admittedly that might be the most riskiest part of this team. Having to depend on Will Fuller and Kenny Stills as WR2/3 isn't totally ideal. But with the talent around them and their ability to have high scoring games, Drew could afford to take the risk. Jack Doyle is just another tight end, could be good could be bla. Worst case Drew's fighting for a playoff spot, best case, he's in his first fantasy championship game since 2010. Definitely a darkhorse favorite to win it all this season.

Alex (SCLSU MudDogs)- Well..this could be another team I'm really not too much of a fan of. It doesn't help that the Le'Veon Bell situation could drag on. I'm legit not a fan any of Alex's picks..but that's just my personal preference. Doug Baldwin has a nagging knee injury that seems will be a problem every week, LeSean McCoy is getting up there in age and has legal troubles over his head, Brandin Cooks is overrated and how Mark won a title with him as #1 pick is super crazy, Delanie Walker is ok, though I'd probably would've waited for a tight end at that point, Funchess could be good but there's a lot of mouths to feed in that Carolina offense and you still have to wonder how Andrew Luck will hold up in real NFL games. I've been wrong numerous times thoughout the years, but I'm just not really seeing a playoff bound team here.

Me (Rigmas Forever)-  Now it's my turn, and I'm usually my harshest critic. Kept Kamara and Michael Thomas and basically have had Jordan Howard on my radar all preseason. Not really because I love him..just because of necessity, knowing how bad the RB's are. Howard was MAD frustrating to own last year due to his total lack of pass catching abilities. Regardless he was still the best back on the board left and felt like I had to take him. Hopefully the Bears coach speak is a reality and Howard is a true workhorse back and they give him a few shots as pass catcher as well. I was decided between him and A.J. Green and I really wanted Green but just couldn't pass up Howard. T.Y. Hilton is a high boom/bust option, but I'm actually ok with that because I have two consistent receivers in Larry Fitzgerald (Felt like he dropped considerably to be considered a steal) and Michael Thomas. I'm a big fan of my receiving group and also have Emmanuel Sanders and Tyler Lockett (two guys I'm high on) on my bench for depth. I think Ajayi too is a hell of flex option. I'm not thrilled with Russell Wilson, but he still has high scoring upside, and he was the last of the "elite" QB's left on the board. My Tight End always seems lacking ,but Kyle Rudolph seems more than serviceable. I feel like I have a great mix of guys that can contribute right away and intriguing stashes (Sony Michel, Nick Chubb, John Ross, and also drafted Darrius Guice and IR'd him as a 14th round pick). I'm actually kind of high on my team and I'd definitely put myself in the mix for possibly championship contendership. I'd be super disappointed if I didn't at the very least make the playoffs but it wouldn't shock me in the least the way my luck varies.

Kenny (Scott's Tots)- If I'm Kenny, I'm a little nervous with this team. It's a very shaky team with great upside but also great bust factor. Keeping McCaffrey was the absolute right choice as there's no way in hell he would've made it past the first round if unkept. You could tell though that Kenny wanted Watson too and he decided to reach and take him in Round 3, which is admittedly an un Kenny like move. Watson definitely has the upside potential to be worth it, but man it comes with a ton of risk. Moves like this, and also gambling on two suspended players (Edelman and Ingram) cost Kenny some depth. He got Ertz at a nice price, but counting on guys like Carlos Hyde, Jordan Wilkins, Jordy Nelson, and Sammy Watkins doesn't exactly scream confidence. Kenny definitely has the talent to keep afloat before Edelman and Ingram come back, but his first 4 guys are going to have to be on point. This is seriously one team where the ceiling is championship and the floor is bottom of the league. Should be very interesting.

Mark (Shock The Monkey)- Sorry Champ..not feeling this team at ALL. Kelce in the first round over A.J. Green was shocking. I honestly think Mark could've ended up with Kelce anyways had he gone Green first..but Golden Tate..ugh..that early? Misfire in my eyes. I'd basically would've rather had everyone after him besides Allen Robinson and up LeSean McCoy. He's good..but not early 2nd round good.  Two Part Time running backs in Royce Freeman and Derrick Henry, Robby Anderson has at least some intriguing upside. Alshon's hurt for a few weeks, not a fan a Jimmy G from a fantasy perspective, and guys like Duke Johnson and Randall Cobb just don't move the needle for me. I'm not seeing fantasy playoffs for this team, but hell..maybe I just completely jinxed it now.

Eugene (Rocket Man)- Last but not least..Eugene and he benefitted from A.J. Green slipping. A.J. Green and Julio is an absolutely lethal 1-2 punch. Eugene though went a little bit too WR heavy, taking Jarvis Landry and Marvin Jones after Green. 3 picks..(4 including keeper Julio) 3 WR's. Outside of Gordon, RB's are where Eugene severly lacks solid depth in. Ronald Jones just isn't ready to contribute fantasy wise yet, and Matt Breida might be OK as the catch passing back. Marlon Mack is hurt. He does have a couple of intriguing stashes (Calvin Ridley/Courtland Sutton) but again it's an already crowded receiving group. Matthew Stafford is who he is basically, he's definitely serviceable as a starter. Those RB's might be a downfall and I see this a fringe borderline playoff team that might be fighting for the final playoff spot.

Alright and that'll do it! I'll have my predictions tomorrow night and Thursday night football kicks off Week 1!
