The Wane McGarity Bowl was founded in 2010..but obviously that's not the first time the majority of the group was in a fantasy football league together. The precursor to the Wane McGarity Bowl was the first league I was commish of. The short lived Get Em Jerry League named after the lovable much adored owner of the Dallas Cowboys, Jerry Jones, and a knock on Cowboys Zone due that being their favorite saying when it came to going after free agents/draft picks. Get Em Jerry was formed for the 2008 season and was only an 8 team league. 6 of the 8 teams would go on the become members of the Wane McGarity Bowl (Myself, Albert, Mike, Ryan, Drew,Kenny). The other two teams owned by Mike's friend Sean, and the original "internet guy" (sorry Leland) Rick aka Siesta Keys. Albert beat Mike in the finals of the first season (So technically Albert has 3 titles, but just like the NFL doesn't combine NFL Championships that predate the Super Bowls, this championship was not won in the Wane McGarity Bowl therefore doesn't count officially in our record books) The next season the league expanded to 10 as everyone from the inaugural season came back along with Mike's friend Brad, and another friend of mine Kyle. Drew beat Brad in the finals of the last season of Get Em Jerry. Get Em Jerry was dissolved after the 2009 season to make way to the new pay league format that have today and we ended up losing 4 teams and having to start back at 8 for the inaugural Wane McGarity Bowl season. Why am I doing this blog post? Who knows, I was bored and felt like it. The main reason the Get Em Jerry League was disbanded was competitiveness was lacking. There was zero incentive for teams to really take the league seriously. Guys would forget to change teams on a regular basis. The switch was necessary in order to have a fun, competitive league. 4 years later, and the Wane McGarity Bowl is a flourishing 12 team ultra competitive league. Just thought it was kinda cool to showcase the league that inevitably led to creation of the Wane McGarity Bowl. Ok...I promise, no more posts till June.
